Yesterday boxing fans were informed of the strong possibility Shane Mosley will fight Sergio Mora in a 154 pound tussle September 18th at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles; today the proposed card continues to take shape with news of a possible under card scrap between Mexican up and comer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Britain’s Matthew Hatton.
According to Richard Schaefer’s comments to AOL Fanhouse, the 19 year old Alvarez’s fight will be hyped up all week in Los Angeles as part of Mexican Independence Day festivities tied to music and other cultural events.
Alvarez is Mexico’s new boxing idol and hopes are high that the red-headed, freckle faced welterweight can return some of the shine to the Aztec nation’s tarnished boxing glory.
Hatton (39-4, 15 KOs) and Alvarez (32-0, 24 KOs) both have respective Summer bouts in which they would have to be victorious in order to advance to a tentative September pay-per-view showdown.
Alvarez was last seen on the under card of Floyd Mayweather Junior and Shane Mosley’s May fight in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he scored a ninth round technical knock-out against Veteran Jose Miguel Cotto.
