The fight between Congressman Manny Pacquiao and wanna-be-hip-hop artist Floyd Mayweather, Jr. now supposedly hinges on when/if Mayweather, Jr. signs on the dotted line.
All reports from Bob Arum of Top Rank lead to Mayweather, Jr. again being in the position of calling all the shots.
There may remain only two viable obstacles in the way of this fight happening.
Either Mayweather, Jr. is demanding all lawsuits against both he, his uncle Roger, and father Floyd, Sr. be dropped, or the little talked about brittle hands of the lightening quick boxer have not sufficiently healed.
The pattern of Mayweather, Jr. in recent years has been that he always takes sufficient time for the healing of the now rarely discussed soft hands that have forced him into “retirement” while he slyly lets the other candidates for top dog in the welterweight division battle it out.
The, like the clever fox he has shown himself to be, Mayweather, Jr. comes out of the shadows and handles his business by only fighting the assumed number one contender at the time.
There remains the huge dilemna of Congressman Pacquiao since his Fillipino brothers and sisters along with himself were embarassed by everyone associated with the Mayweather clan including Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer along with the Golden Boy himself Oscar de la Hoya in making reference to Pacquiao being “a cheater” by using some type of performance enhancing drug.
Could Manny Pacquiao be persuaded by the millions of dollars he would garner for a fight with Mayweather, Jr. to forsake the reputation and good name of both his people and his country?
Mayweather, Jr. has made demands that have all seemingly been accepted by Pacquiao but there remains no signed contract.
Manny Pacquiao has one demand left and just as soon as he relents and allows the Mayweathers and Golden Boy flunkies to get their way, the fight will then find it’s way to a scheduling date.
Barring Mayweather, Jr. finding any new reasons for the fight to be delayed, there has obviously been sufficient time for his hands to heal.
The xylocaine injections would no longer be detected in his blood and he could probably pass any test as long as that test is in Nevada, where the use of the drug is not prohibited.
As bright as some feel the light is at the end of the tunnel regarding the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is, don’t for one minute believe Mayweather, Jr. will sign the contract until all his demands have been met.
While boxing continues to prosper, the fight everyone really wants to see remains in the hands of someone who cares nothing about the sport but only what his own personal financial benefit will be.
While there is probably nothing wrong with that philosophy since after all, prize fighters fight for the prize which is as much cash as can be mustered, right?
Whether Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is the greatest welterweight BOXER, not FIGHTER, of all-time remains to be seen.
What can now safely be assumed is that whether you like it or not, Mayweather, Jr. has established himself, at least in the mind of Congressman Pacquiao, who the draw in the division is.
The fight is looking further and further away from coming to fruition, but Pacquiao seems to be willing to do whatever it takes on his part to make this fight happen.
Even then, the possibility strongly remains “Money” will find another excuse to delay the action.

Dale Harbor of Denver: “Manny Pacquiao should move on in his boxing career since it’s obvious Mayweather doesn’t want to fight him. For whatever reason, Pacquiao has the loud-mouthed Mayweather scared”.
Gene Cisneros of Littleton: “Mayweather, Jr. is really starting to irritate me with all the demands and crap he’s been coming up with lately. Sign the damned contract and like referee Mills Lane used to say, “Let’s get it on”.
Roger Morrell of Fort Collins: “Please tell me they’ve finally got a signed contract?! It’s time to see who the best poud-for-pound fighter in the world is and I’m betting it’s Mayweather”.
