Yesterday it was reported that Los Angeles based Golden Boy Promotions was suspended by the New York State Athletic Commission.
David Itskowitch, Golden Boy’s Chief Operating Officer, told The New York Daily News that the suspension is due to the promotion not providing the State of New York contracts for Victor Ortiz and Nate Campbell.
Allegedly the suspension was administered because Home Boxing Office (HBO) provided Golden Boy $750,000 for a May 15 fight between Ortiz and Campbell, but the fighters only received $225,000.
The speculation is that Golden Boy underpaid the fighters, without informing them, and then funneled the money into the main event between Amir Khan and Paulie Malignaggi.
Itskowtich claims Ortiz and Campbell’s contract were provided to the Association of Boxing Commission, since Ortiz and Campbell have confidentially clauses and New York State makes all information – including boxing contracts, public information.
There was no explanation as to what Golden Boy did with the remainder of the $525,000 ear marked by HBO for Ortiz – Campbell.
