I know it?s not appropriate but I?d like to start this missive with an apology. No disrespect man and I do not mean to be a Pacnuthugger when I wrote ?The Pacquiao Revelation.? It was meant to be an outlandish note! You see I wrote that when I was chatting with a friend on FB, and while she was sharing me her unhappy family life, I was thinking how unhappy the fans were. I felt for the millions who saw how oh-so-close close it was that you and Pacquiao were meant to show how great boxing is until that bloody ?blood thing? got in the way. You always like a joy-ride (you know what I mean) but the fans are not prepared for a Money Mayweather! Man, you?re the man! 41-0 and still no one in the horizon can compare to your ?God-given? gifts. Remember you made that distinction in one of those HBO episodes? I thought that was a poetic distinction, quite similar to the way you carve your masterpiece in the ring.
That Mosley guy was the ?die in the cast? bull and you were the master matador. You did not run. I thought that Roach made a mistake when he said that you lost a step during that fight. No man! You choose to trade punches to show that old dog Mosley that ?you can punch the puncher.? They never gave you credit for that. I may have never laced gloves in my life but I know for a fact that when you planted your feet and rattled those pull-counters and right leads, it was the fight you owned. You tagged Mosley with right leads the way Ali tagged Liston with those piston-cum-laser like punches! It was the same execution begging for the same result.
Round 2 was a testimony to your warrior spirit. You almost went down but not your will. It was what perplexed Mosley and my guess is that it stunned him more than it stunned you. He wanted you to go down ? make you go down ? but it was his will that eventually bent. That was one Picasso brushstroke I did not miss. Mosley gave up his will on the round he?s supposed to triumph.
You may not have to fight Pacquiao. It may not prove a thing. But you will earn at least $40 million. Not a bad deal huh! You?re friend 50 Cent made that famous joke that you would make so much money ?they would have to bring in trucks in order to load piles of cash.? Marv Dumon took note of that and I did too.
Somehow I can see those pull counters coming. How will Roach solve those? Pac has to eat a lot of leather to even step near your shadow. And with the right leads? That will be iconic the way Ali?s were. The right leads defy logic by virtue of you being a righty. It will render Bruce Lee?s thesis non-sensical that the nearer and longer reach will beat the shorter and further ones. Not one with the right lead like Floyd?s! I can see now why Ali said ?I’m so fast that last night I turned off the light switch in my hotel room and was in bed before the room was dark.? Ha ha!
I?ll say ? Ha ha!? again if ever you and Pac will finally sign the dotted lines. November 2010 will be the most notable boxing November in history. I?ll send a note to Earth, Wind and Fire and will ask them to sing not September but November ??changing the mind of pretenders while chasing the clouds away.? On that day the world will know who?s the pretender.
