There have been so many conflicting details about the negotiations between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr that it has caused mass confusion, and in some places, it has caused mass hysteria. Each side blames the other for an unsigned contract. But who are we supposed to believe in this soap opera and what exactly is going on? Is the contract really just a signature away? Let’s examine further: Should Floyd Mayweather Jr be ranked higher than Manny Pacquiao in the P4P rankings? Vote here… We must first start with the fact that there are conflicting statements from each fighter’s “camp”. Team Pacquiao has publicly commented on details of the negotiations but Team Mayweather has denied any negotiations. In fact, we wouldn’t have any details about the negotiations if it weren’t for Team Pacquiao’s public comments. Bob Arum Bob Arum has been a one man controversy during this entire negotiations process. At first, he publicly states that he won’t comment on the negotiations. Unfortunately, he didn’t keep to this word and his limited details have only added to the confusion. One week he’s saying “no comment” and the next he’s talking about receiving offers of untold millions from foreign parties. In between these comments, Bob is chastising members of Manny’s management team for making comments about the fight purse. But then he tells my fellow examiner Michael Marley that he can’t talk about the fight and that he’s really busy. And after a few more incidents of “no comment”, Bob finally announces that we will have an answer about all of this within the month. Before we even talk about other members of Team Pacquiao and Manny, Bob already has our heads spinning. He’s enough to drive most of us crazy…
