Reigning Ring Magazine featherweight king Manny Pacquiao yesterday announced he has “made the best decision in his career” and has never been happier in his professional life, indicating that his decision to hook up with New York-based manager Shelly Finkel has brought him peace of mind in the lead up to his 12-round brawl with Mexican legend Erik Morales on March 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacquiao, in a long-distance interview with the country’s leading media personality Mike Enriquez at the latter’s radio program over DZBB, has informed that he feels comfortable with his new team–made up of Finkel and lawyers Keith Davidson and Nicholas Khan–as he feels the group will be very transparent especially in the financial aspect of his career.
Pacquiao further revealed that his new management team has assured him of better accounting of his finances, and that he will be given a chance to personally see to it that everybody in the team gets his fair share of the pie every after each fight. The Filipino boxing star informed that he will be the one to personally hand out percentages out of his purse for his trainer, cutman, and conditioning coach.
Pacquiao stated that he should be getting fair share of the pay-per-view and other television uptakes, and that a transparent management team should deal with that.
“I have full trust in my new management team because I know they have the experience and expertise to make things work,” said Pacquiao, as quoted by US-based journalist Winchell Campos yesterday.
Pacquiao, who has transferred to a better apartment located in the heart of Hollywood, is currently in the sparring period of his training at coach Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Gym. So far, he has been sharp against bigger boys like Ray Beltran, Justin Juuko and Javier Garcia.
Personal trainer and boyhood buddy Buboy Fernandez has also indicated that all Pacquiao needs at this point is to get back the proper timing for his punches, and everything is expected to fall into the right place.
