The Nevada State Athletic Commission’s recent findings have left many people in utter shock. I’m still scratching my head over the statements that basically summarized blood testing as potentially dangerous and insignificant. I’m going to have to remember this “line of thinking” next time I go to the doctor and he says I need some blood-work done. The outcome of this public hearing will massively impact the sport of Boxing. Specifically, it has blown up the entire negotiations between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The question this article will examine is “Will Manny Pacquiao change his offer of a 14 day cut-off for collecting and testing blood?” 14 Days A few weeks ago, Manny Pacquiao came out and publicly announced that he would come down to 14 days for blood tests. This was a compromise from his original stance of 24 days.
Unfortunately, nobody from Team Mayweather has yet to comment on whether this is acceptable. In fact, all we’ve heard from Team Mayweather is that Floyd Jr is not interested in dsciussing Boxing and he might or might not take 1-2 years off. How will Floyd Mayweather Jr respond to NSAC’s ruling on blood tests? However, a few months ago, Floyd Mayweather Jr said that he will no longer accept any cut-off date for a fight. He stated that his opponents would have to agree to random testing all the way up to fight day. Unfortunately for Mayweather, the Nevada State Athletic Commission didn’t agree.
In fact, they suggest that blood testing should be cut-off at 3-4 weeks before the fight due to possible injuries stemming from withdrawal of blood. In other words, the small percentage of injury far outweighs the threat of cheating. Thus we are left to ask, “Will Manny Pacquiao force the NSAC’s recommendation instead of his 14 day stipulation?” ..
