EXCLUSIVE from CELEBRITY HEADLINES EXAMINER, HOLLYWOOD, California for Manila Edition, June 12, 2010 – While Dan Hill, the Grammy and Juno-Award winning singer-composer, courts singer-actor Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao for a possible inclusion of him in the rendition of “Sometimes When We Touch” for a stage performance, the latter keeps his power-touch on high gear, inspiring observers and philanthropists alike about addressing the true needs of the Filipinos especially the young children in their formative years of education.
As Pacquiao is ready to mark his own trail of continuing to solidify his cause to help the less fortunate and to meet his new league in Batasang Pambansa from June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2013, the public eye looks forward for a better outlook of him in the 15th Congress of the Philippines. To the curious few, Pacquiao’s rise to political stardom is simply a perfect study of how a driven life must be: carefully seasoned with power and inspiration.
One such study of power and inspiration comes along with Sharon Cuneta’s intuition, which can have good reflections on Pacquiao’s critical pathway to Congress.
Pacquiao’s earnest love to read inspirational books, such as the Purpose Drive Life by Rick Warren and the Bible, also gives him clues on how to actuate the same twin powers.
As for Cuneta, the Megastar of the Philippines, reading gives her the holistic therapy she needs.
“I love to discover why famous people fail and what they do with their power,” Cuneta has spoken, “and look at what happened to Adolf Hitler or may be Donald Trump.”
Cuneta refers to the abuse of power by Adolf Hitler and to the repeated financial bankruptcy of Donald Trump, whose brand of lifestyle has come to symbolize all that is lavish and extravagant.
Cuneta, fondly called by her fans ‘Mega’, stresses that “reading feeds the mind and soul for information and general betterment of life”.
But, it’s not just about such reasoning. Her latest rhetoric may have provided her fans a hint of what will she become someday after reigning as the most popular and multi-awarded Filipino singer, actress and TV host dubbed “Megastar of Philippine Entertainment.
For such speculation, media buzz before 2013 Philippine National Elections will brighten the answer.
Cuneta’s father, Pablo Cuneta (1910?2000), was a mayor of Pasay City for four decades. Her husband is Senator Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan, who should have been a Vice Presidential candidate in the last Philippine national elections; but, he gave way his interest to run for said position to Senator Manuel Roxas who just lost to former Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay.
Conversely, Cuneta continues her campaign to encourage children to read more. She joins McDonald’s House Charities and the Department of Education’s joint campaign for kids’ bright minds read, geared for love of reading among Filipino kids.
Cuneta says the brand of campaign, Cheeseburger Campaign, is meant to raise over a million of pesos for the Ronald McDonald House Charities’s banner program this year of creating Bright Minds Read (BMR) for future generations.
“I’m proud to have been a member of the RMHC for the past 14 years and I’m very happy that we have raised more than P1 million in less than two weeks where BMR tool kits will be donated to 100 public elementary schools,” says Cuneta at the McDonald’s in Greenbelt, Makati City.
The said campaign has embarked an effective literacy program since its inception in 2002. It has recorded, according to official report, a significant contribution in the reduction of non-readers among the youth. In fact, after extensive efforts starting from 14 pilot schools, there are now 2,200 schools covering all regions with 37,800 schools as the ultimate target, according to Cuneta on wire report.
Meanwhile, Cuneta’s success in the movies, television and recording make her possibly the greatest Filipino entertainer of all time. Her popularity has translated well into the field of advertising, where she is the highest paid and most effective Filipino celebrity endorser. She has a long list of endorsements from fastfood chain to bank, from make-up line to electronics, from ice cream to tele-communication company.
“If Sharon Cuneta runs for an elective national post next election, my constituents will support her through and through,” says Ronald Rodriguez , the newly installed president of the New League of Young Democrats, during an exclusive interview with this writer. “She has qualities of a great winner and a great leader. Yes…brilliant and surely sincere to serve people in a public office.”
“Sharon Cuneta must be right for what she is doing for the young children and we know real power belongs to these young children,” he adds.
