Undefeated former pound for pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr has done as much to prevent this fight from happening as humanly possible. From steroid accusations, to blood test demands, and now talk of wanting to retire again. What exactly is Floyd trying to pull here? Does he think that 40 million dollars will come his way for the rest of his life?
Could it be true that Floyd is actually scared to fight Manny Pacquiao? At first I didn’t think so, but as time goes by I am actually pondering this a little bit more. Has the Mayweather team talked themselves into a corner, and now they are worried about having to actually get into the ring and back up what they have been saying now? Or, is this just a big ploy to put some pressure on Bob Arum to concede to their demands?
I spoke with the Assistant Director of the Mississippi Athletic Commission, Patrick Turner and got his thoughts on this whole mess. Turner believes that Mayweather owes it to boxing to make this fight happen, ” You had Ali Vs. Fraizer, and during the 80’s when Hagler and Hearns fought, it was super- fights that brought boxing back. Pacquiao Vs Mayweather is the fight that would bring boxing back for this decade. When boxing has given Mayweather so much, this is a fight that Mayweather needs to give back to boxing.”
Mayweather does owe it to boxing to make this fight happen. Boxing provided Floyd Mayweather with his financial freedom, so he should give back to boxing and it’s fans and just make this fight happen. Recently I read an article by boxing scribe “Bad” Brad Berkwitt. His believes that both team Mayweather and team Pacquiao are purposely hyping up headlines in order to hype this fight up even more than it already is. There may be some merit to this theory. Hopefully for the sake of the sport and it’s fans, Mayweather will stop being hard headed about this whole thing and just sign on the dotted line. Heck, if Floyd loses there will always be a big fat rematch in the mix. A rematch would tack on another 40 plus million dollars. Floyd and Manny both look to earn 40 plus million for this fight, and double that if a rematch happens. It just makes no sense for this fight to not happen. Come of Floyd, do the right thing here and sign on the line.
