Earlier tonight at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, Andre ?S.O.G.? Ward defended his WBA Super Middleweight belt with a unanimous decision over Tulsa, Oklahoma?s Allan Green. The bout was part of the second stage of Showtime?s Super Six tournament and Ward was in control throughout.
Heading into the contest Green had talked a big game, questioning Ward?s heart and skills, but the rangy fighter?s offensive attack was nullified by Ward. From round one on Ward took command by remaining active and forcing the action on the inside. Green had no answer and was unable to let his punches go. Over the second half of the fight Ward began to land with more regularity and the outcome never seemed in doubt. Scores of 120-108 across the board were all read in favor of the champion.
After the win Ward admitted that Green?s pre-fight trash talk served as extra motivation and he seemed pleased with his performance. With the win Andre moves to 22-0 with 13 knockouts and will be eyeing a September showdown with good friend Andre Dirrell.
Green stated that multiple training camps in 2010 took a lot out of him yet still gave his opponent due respect. The fight was pushed back from its original April date because of a leg injury suffered by Ward and perhaps that affected Green?s psyche. The fighter known as ?Sweetness? falls to 29-2 with 20 knockouts and will have to step up his game in his next fight against WBC king Mikkel Kessler.
