First of all Ivan, It?s an honor to be speaking to you right now, you are to me one of the best pure boxers out there today. How are you doing?
IC- Thank you for the compliment, it means alot. I?m feeling fine, just adding last touches for this Saturday night.
Yes sir, this Saturday night, you will take on the tough Jesus Iribe. What are your thoughts on Iribe?
IC- Well, Iribe is a tough fighter as you mentioned. I hear he hits hard, but that doesn?t matter. Will he be able to touch me is the question.
Do you feel that with you being a pure boxer, that it has worked against you? The cold truth and harsh reality in all this is that most fans want to see sluggers, especially with UFC doing what it?s been doing, the demand for action fighters is at an all time high. I myself, appreciate all styles of fighting but to most that watch the sport, they say silence is golden but the violence is platinum.
IC- You know, it has worked against me. Truth is, I treat this as a sweet science because at the end of the day, that is exactly what this is. I know how to stay composed and know what it takes to win, I have proven that. I go out there to make you look silly. That?s what makes this great sport of ours so unique, you have all different types of styles. They say I run, ok but I know what I?m doing out there, I just don?t run, I also jab and make you get frustrated to the point that you can?t even see straight anymore. Like we talked about earlier, you told me that you felt that Oscar outboxed Trinidad, I?m Puerto Rican, so I will say that in that fight it should have been a draw. A draw because Oscar did outbox Trinidad early, but in the second half Oscar just ran to run out the clock. You have to also throw some jabs in there and move around, not just run.
Giovanni Segura, that is the next fight I want to see you in, what?s your take on that fight?
IC- I would take that fight. Segura is a big name right now. So is Solis. But if we do those fights, you are going to have to pay me because I have been in this sport a long time and you need to pay me big for those fights. Viloria also, all those are the biggest fights in our division so it?s only right that you pay us as such.
I know that as a pure boxer that you appreciate what Floyd does out there, so with the dominance of Pacquiao, can Floyd do enough to frustrate Pacquiao and beat this great Pacquiao storm?
IC- Yes! Floyd would beat Pacquiao. It would be a great fight, but Floyd would out box him. Floyd is a very smart fighter that never gets mentally rattled in there. Floyd picks his spots and he picks them very well.
So who would you say has the best chance of beating Floyd?
IC- Pacquiao, you see they both are fighters that have the best chance of beating each other so that?s why this fight needs to happen. Pacquiao is very fast and punches alot so he can make things uncomfortable in there for Floyd. Like you said to me earlier, the best way to beat a Floyd is to get him out of his comfort level. Find ways to make him think 2,3, or more things at once.
What can we expect to see from you come Saturday night against Iribe?
IC- A big win for me. I?m a mover, so I move in there and box you silly. My movement can make you piss on yourself. I will win because I box very intelligently always. I will win then my next fight will be August 28 in Puerto Rico. Thanks for the call, I enjoyed talking boxing with you.
