Flashy Z ?The Dream? Gorres, a highly rated Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super flyweight, and former world super flyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa will train under famed trainer Buddy McGirt.
Gorres and Pe?alosa are scheduled to fly to Orlando, Florida early next month to meet McGirt, a two-time world champion during his heydays.
In an overseas telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Manila Standard, International promoter Murad Muhammad said he had made arrangements with McGirt who was selected ?Trainer of the Year? in 2002 by several media outlets, including The Boston Globe and ESPN 2?s Friday Night Fights.
Muhammad said McGirt was ?very willing to help train the two Filipinos? and had even made arrangements for their stay in Orlando while in training.
Muhammad said he wanted Gorres to fly in with Pe?alosa ?six weeks before Gorres? fight? on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales showdown on March 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
At the same time, World Boxing Council founding secretary general Rudy Salud, who handles Gorres in partnership with Cebu boxing patron Tony Aldeguer, didn?t wish to send Gorres and Pe?alosa to train under Freddie Roach in order not to deprive him of giving Pacquiao his total attention in preparation for his megabuck showdown with Morales.
