In the latest Pacquiao news, Congressman Manny was taken to the hospital on Sunday for a non-serious stomach ailment.
According to Pacquiao’s lawyer, Manny Pacquiao is suffering from acid reflux and should be home within a day. In fact, Pacquiao’s lawyer also says that Manny chose to stay in the hospital to get some rest from the campaign and subsequent congressional election.
“It was just his usual acid reflux. The doctor told me there is nothing to worry about. There was even no need for him to be confined but he wanted to take a rest after the (election) campaign,” Garcal, AFP
Apparently this isn’t the first time Manny has gone to the hospital for his acid reflux condition. The GMA-News reports that Manny Pacquiao was also rushed to the Cardinal Santos Medical Center back in 2006. According to Jayke Joson, Pacquiao’s chief of staff, the acid reflux was a result of ‘Pacquiao?s stressful activity during the campaign, his failure to eat his meals on time and various appointments after the election are the causes of his sickness.’ (GMA News)
Acid Reflux (GERD)
According to the Mayo Clinic acid reflux, also known as Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is a chronic digestive disease that occurs when stomach acid or, occasionally, bile flows back (refluxes) into your food pipe (esophagus). The backwash of acid irritates the lining of your esophagus and causes GERD.
Common signs and symptoms of GERD are heartburn, chest pain, difficulties swallowing, dry cough, sore throat, and vomiting. For most people, GERD, and these symptoms, can be treated with either over the counter or prescription medications. Also, a change diet can help prevent whatever foods might trigger the GERD. However, in some cases GERD can cause severe and long-term complications.
Over time GERD can cause a narrowing of the esophagus, open sores in the esophagus, and even cause changes that are similar to cancer of the esophagus. It’s recommended that you see a doctor as soon as you experience any chest pains or other accompanying symptoms.
So, now the question must be asked “Will Manny’s health be a factor in these negotiations with Floyd Mayweather Jr?”
