AFTER SPENDING two days in San Francisco for some consultation with a key figure of his entourage, Manny Pacquiao has returned to his old haunt in Hollywood, California, ready to resume his training for the megabuck March 19 encounter with Erik Morales of Mexico.
Pacquiao traveled to the Bay Area with training assistant Buboy Fernandez to meet with Roberto “Boying” Nazario, an influential San Francisco-based member of Team Pacquiao.
Boying is the eldest son of Pacquiao?s business manager, Rod Nazario.
On Sunday, Pacquiao?s wife Jinkee, sought the assistance of friends asking for the whereabouts of Pacquiao, who is scheduled to fetch her at LAX airport on Thursday night (Friday morning in Manila).
Pacquiao?s brief “disappearance” brought back memories of his unannounced arrival in Manila from Los Angeles in early October last year when he learned that negotiations for a fight with Morales had bogged down.
Pacquiao arrived in the US on Jan. 8 with the knowledge that he would be meeting Juan Manuel Marquez on Feb. 26.
A few days after his arrival, promoters Bob Arum of Top Rank and Murad Muhammad of M&M Sports, announced in a news conference in a landmark Beverly Hills hotel that Pacquiao would instead face Morales on HBO Pay-Per-View at the MGM Grand.
Pacquiao is guaranteed a purse of $1.75 million, while Morales is expected to pocket at least $2.5 million, according to industry sources. When Morales fought and lost to Marco Antonio Barrera last Nov. 27, 2004, the two received $2.25 million each.
