Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales (49-6), the Mexican warrior with a hawk-ish face, may return to the ring on July 17 or July 24 in a Mexican ring to continue his comeback and to attempt to revive his career.
ESPN.com considers Morales as well as old rival Marco Antonio Barrera (65-7) as belonging to the pantheon of top 50 greatest boxers of all time.
For the July fight, Argentinian Jorge Barrios (49-4-1) is reported to be a possible opponent.
Morales last fought on March 27 earlier this year against journeyman Jose Alfaro in Mexico, a bout he won by unanimous decision. Trilogies
“El Terrible” stands out as one of the rare fighters in the history of the sport to have had two memorable trilogies. His three fights with Barrera are considered as one of the greatest trilogies ever – he won the first fight and lost the last two.
Similar to the Barrera fights, Morales won his first fight against Filipino phenom Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2) and then lost two subsequent fights by knockout.
Morales is the last boxer to have defeated Pacquiao in 2005 – at the super featherweight limit of 130 lbs. – in one of the best fights of the decade of the 2000s.
