MANILA, Philippines ? The oath taking of Congressman-elect Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao may overshadow that of Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino III’s, who, based on all vote-count tallies, will likely be the next Philippine president.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum is planning a worldwide telecast of Pacquiao being sworn into office as the lone district representative of the southern Philippine province of Sarangani
?On June 30, Manny will be sworn into office, and we are planning to do a worldwide telecast of the swearing in,? Arum told FightNews.com.
The telecast appears to be part of Top Rank?s plan to promote Pacquiao as a boxing champion-congressman, possibly a first in the world.
Arum earlier said he wants to introduce the Filipino boxing superstar as “Congressman Manny Pacquiao” during his next press conference.
The Top Rank promoter said Pacquiao is really happy about his victory in the May 10 elections.
?He said, ?Bob, I am so proud of what I have accomplished?. When someone says that, you know it was a life-long dream of his. He pulled it off and I am so happy for him,? said Arum.
Due in November
Pacquiao?s handler said they will be reserving November 6 and 13 as possible dates for the Filipino?s next fight.
?Manny is definitely going to fight in November,? said Arum, who is working out to arrange a match with former pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. Bob Arum
?It?s the Mayweather fight. There is no question that is the fight that the public wants and that is the fight that Manny wants,? he said.
However, if things don?t work out for the two boxers, Antonio Margarito will step in as Pacquiao?s ?Plan B?.
Arum also said he thinks Pacquiao is still good for 3 fights.
On the other hand, Pacquiao’s mother, Dionisia, wants his son to fight one last time.
?My belief is, based on my conversations with him, he will engage in probably 3 more fights,? said Arum.
President Pacquiao?
Now that he witnessed Pacquiao?s victory as Philippine congressman, Arum said he dreams of having his fighter achieve greater things.
?My great dream is to still be around to be at the inauguration of Manny Pacquiao of President of the Philippines. That would be the greatest achievement in my career,? said Arum.
