Ever since Pacquiao’s management team leaked the details that Floyd Mayweather Jr wanted a larger share of the fight purse, boxing fans have engaged in ‘heated’ debates over Mayweather’s demands. Obviously, fans for Floyd Jr agree with his demands and fans of Manny vehemently disagree. But, who really deserves the larger share? Let’s examiner further. Floyd Mayweather Jr In today’s world of Boxing, nobody sells more PPVs or tickets than Floyd Mayweather Jr. A big factor in his success is that Floyd knows how to hype a fight. When the lights and cameras go on, “Money May” comes out and the hype begins. Floyd’s verbal attacks draw the ire of his opponent and that opponent’s fans. Thus, you have more people tuning in to see Floyd lose; in addition to Mayweather’s legion of fans. Floyd is also considered one of the best boxers in the world. He’s rated the top welterweight according to ESPN, Yahoo, and The Ring Mag. His 41-0 record has people talking about Floyd being one of the greatest of all-time. If you ask Floyd, he’ll tell you he is the greatest. Manny Pacquiao Manny has won world titles in 7 different weight classes. A feat that has never been done before in the history of Boxing. Manny is coming off being named the ‘Fighter of the Decade’ and ‘2009 Fighter of the Year’. In addition to these acclaims, Manny is also ranked the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. Manny is also considered one of the greatest boxers of all-time. His humbled, God-fearing approach to life has won over many fans across the world. His congressional victory proves that he’s about more than just between the ropes. Conclusion What really goes into deciding who gets the larger share of the fight purse? Is it revenue earned? Is it name recognition? Is it titles won? It’s clear that both Floyd Jr and Manny have become the top 2 boxers in the world; does that figure into the purse split?
