Leonard Ellerbe. Who exactly is this guy and why is he seemingly in every picture ever published of Floyd Mayweather?
You better believe I’m in a very bad mood today and taking no prisoners.
OK, we won the election yesterday and that was a joyous occasion no doubt, but now we find a Mayweather fight slipping further away as Pacquiao has less time away from the office and Cowboys Stadium is only available during non-football season February – August except for about a three-hour window in mid November between football and tractor pulls.
I’m not really in a bad mood, but it doesn’t take much these days to set me off.
Only when Bob Arum is in talks with a suddenly silent Richard Schaefer is anything happening on “The Fight” front.
Floyd can go off on vacation because his interests are being protected by Schaefer and Pacquiao’s by Arum.
But Schaefer is the one seemingly not wanting the fight in Texas when 100,000 fans can see the fight in Cowboys Stadium near Dallas live and in person while only 16,500 can see it live and in person in Las Vegas.
So what am I missing here? Why isn’t this resolved and “The Fight” not coming to Texas yet?
At 78 year’s of age, Arum (who has quite a legacy and already is in the International Boxing Hall of Fame) has written an entirely new script with the work he has done with Manny Pacquiao.
Arum wants this fight made and he’s the only one with the smarts and patience of Jobe that can make it.
Arum, who flew in to General Santos City last Thursday and is already heading back to Las Vegas said that even as an onlooker only, watching Pacquiao win the election was the most satisfying moment of his long career, even better than Pacquiao’s victory over Oscar De La Hoya. That’s high praise.
It seems all Mayweather and Golden Boy can do is shoot down every idea Arum can come up with – which is what they are doing. Lets hope this fight gets made somehow.
I say let Mayweather go about his blood-doping crusade and after the fight, win or lose, he adds an asterisk after his name. This gets the fight made. Otherwise, Mayweather’s side doesn’t want this fight seemingly at all or for another matter not yet exposed.
