This past weekend, Floyd Mayweather showed everyone why some have considered him the top pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. He has been criticized for dodging big fights and good fighters consistently. Well, if you used that against ?Money? before, all that talk can stop. He went up against Shane Mosley, who was right there as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters when he stepped in the ring this past weekend in Las Vegas and Floyd Mayweather put on a masterful performance. Not only did he show that he could sustain some hits and fight off the ropes, but he completely outclassed ?Sugar? Shane Mosley and dominated the fight after the first two rounds. Immediately after the fight, the talks of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao started back up again. It?s the fight that fans want to see. It?s the only fight left for Mayweather and it?s the only real fight left for Pacquiao at this point in time. Talks broke down last time due to testing demands from Mayweather, but there seems to be a little compromise from the two sides and a huge truckload of money for both fighters to finally make this mega-fight a reality.
Freddie Roach joined 790 the Zone in Atlanta with Mayhem in the AM to talk about whether or not a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will happen, on how long it will take for the two sides to reach an agreement, how he felt Mayweather looked in his fight against Mosley this past weekend, and gives his prediction for what will happen if Mayweather and Pacquiao finally fight.
On whether or not a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will happen:
?Yeah, it?s gonna happen. Just talked to Bob Arum yesterday. Bob Arum?s flying to the Philippines today to make Manny the offer. We are trying to make this work the best we can, yes.?
On whether or not it will take long to negotiate:
?No I think we have ammo to get it done quickly because there?s a lot of money out there.?
On the testing requests made by Mayweather:
?We?re gonna meet in the middle. We wanted 24, they wanted 14. (Host: 19?) Yeah, 17 or 18 or something. (Host: Now will you also give blood after the fight?) 100 percent yes. That won?t be a problem.?
On him calling Mayweather pedestrian at 147 lbs:
?Very. (Host: Why did you call him pedestrian at 147?) Yeah, he can?t punch that way. That?s his biggest issue. The speed factor, I think he?s a little slower and I think the other night you saw he doesn?t have his legs anymore. He changed his style because he can?t move like he used to at that weight and that?s why he was more flat-footed. Shane did hit him in the first two rounds but Shane got old overnight, but that happens.?
On what?s going on with Manny Pacquiao and running for Congress in the Philippines:
?The election is in seven days. The only change will be that Manny will be announced as Congressman Manny Pacquiao instead of Manny Pacquiao.?
On where the fight will take place more than likely:
?Vegas I?m sure. (Host: Not Dallas?) I would love to go to Dallas and sell that place out because I know we can do it, but Mayweather has a big issue that he does not want to go there. His home is Vegas he says and he says it?s a Vegas fight, so we have no problem with that.?
On whether or not the fight would go the distance:
?Nope. We will knock him out.?
