Welcome to this week?s edition of the Standing 8, devoted solely to Saturday?s Shane Mosley-Floyd Mayweather fight card.
Who did u pick? Did the first round happen?
I?ve seen more punches thrown in my kitchen during Christmas dinner.
Second round trouble for Mayweather As soon as Mosley connected on that first right cross all of the people in my living room (the ones who still haven?t paid me) were stunned. After the second big one connected?.I was scared, not for Mayweather, but for the fact that I didn?t want the Main Event to end so early.
When was the last time Mayweather faced that kind of adversity? I watched the rest of the second round standing up. I couldn?t sit down, in expectation of Mosley dropping Mayweather. However, Mayweather didn?t go down and in fact, he appeared to start turning the tide later in the second round. I?ve seen Mosley blow up Fernando Vargas, knock Ricardo Mayorga into oblivion and smack the smarts out of Antonio Margarito. I thought he had added Mayweather to his list of beatdowns.
Mayweather doesn?t retreat, but stands in against Mosley A lot of people have criticized Mayweather for his defensive first approach and his unwillingness to stand in the middle of the ring and trade with his opponent. Well, I guess that argument no longer holds any weight. Mayweather stood in against Mosley and he was the one landing the more heavy punches. Critics: you have been silenced.
What’s next for Sugar Shane?
I thought Mosley should have retired years ago, but he responded with a KO against Ricardo Mayorga and the TKO against Antonio Margarito. Now, however, it might be time for him to call it a career or how about a rematch with Margarito?
Who’s ducking who?
I think I just gave someone their new fight slogan. Mayweather-Pacquiao has to happen. All of the fight fans need to see to this. I’m holding out hope that it will get signed. My fingers are crossed. Your should be crossed too. Imagine the smack talk between Freddie Roach and Roger Mayweather, with Floyd Sr., popping in .
And the next Mexican star is …
Could it be Saul Alvarez? Golden Boy’s up and coming star Saul Alvarez made his U.S. debut in the co-feature fight against Jose Miguel Cotto (Miguel’s brother). Alvarez, 19, was rocked early in the fight, but battled back, taking control of the fight until referee Tony Weeks stopped it in the ninth round. He needs to improve on his defense, but he already appears to be better than Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
