The prime-time event between Floyd Mayweather Jr and Shane Mosley turned out to be another Floyd fashioned unanimous sound defeat of Shane Mosley.
Shane’s age really showed as he was fatigued going into the fifth round after an exciting first two rounds of the fight. It was hard to believe that Shane was tired by the fifth round and at the seventh round it was all too obvious that this was going to be a long night for Shane.
Shane displayed a lot more feints than anything else and fans knew that Shane was out of it once he started flinching to Floyd’s feints. Shane’s punches didn’t have the same tight punches as he had in the first two rounds and he completely ignored the successful tactic of establishing his jab to the body.
Shane’s Round 2…. that’s it.
The best round that had everybody on their feet was in the second round when Shane jabbed to Floyd’s body followed by a hard right to Floyd’s head. The force of the punch buckled Floyd’s front knee and it quickly placed him in survival mode.
Floyd took some further beating in the second round but he was able survive the round and adjusted well in the third round. Floyd was able to slowly gain his composure in the third round after he caught Shane with a hard right as he was rushing toward Floyd. That seemed to be the turning point of the fight as Floyd took the role of the aggressor and landed a lot more punches with confidence.
The rounds seemed to be the same two punch combination attacks from Floyd to an inactive 38 year-old. Either Shane was looking for an opening shot against one of best defensive boxers of all time or he was improvising other forms of feigning his attacks.

Floyd kept on picking Shane off with hard rights, stiff quick jabs and some occasional hooks but Floyd didn’t have the initiative to finish off Shane.
Floyd was able to display his quick hard counters in what seemed to be an overpriced sparring match as both fighters didn’t put any commitment behind their attacks.
Shane was able to give a little more of himself in the twelfth round as he started off landing some solid left hooks to Floyd’s body.
Shane was pressuring and maneuvering Floyd toward the ropes in what appeared to be a set up for a toe-to-toe finale. However, Floyd being the fresher and stronger fighter landed a nice uppercut and hard right to Shane’s head as Shane was coming in. Floyd landed a quick three punch combination and was held by Shane until the final bell.
Post bout interview with Larry After the bout, Floyd did not discount that he was hurt in the second round. Floyd noted how boxing is a contact sport where you may take a hard shot however he was able to get pass it like a warrior. Floyd gives credit to Shane Mosley and acknowledges how both of them are future ‘Hall of Famers’. Larry Merchant pressed Floyd about his bout with Manny Pacquiao and if he would be willing to compromise his stance on the blood test. Floyd states that he will only fight Pacquiao if he agrees to the blood and urine test.
Shane seemed a little giddy as he’s waiting for his turn with Larry. He shows a little gesture of agreement to Floyd’s statement on his possible fight with Pacquiao being based on his complians to the blood and urine test. Floyd said that he got tired because he was loading his punches looking for the knockout after the second round. He said that he wasn’t able to adjust in the fight and that Floyd did a better job of adjusting than he did.
