It’s interesting how the sports media suddenly started saying that the Mayweather / Mosley bout is between the top two welterweights in the sport.
Have they forgotten about that other guy already?
No.
They just want to help hype the already hideously highly-hyped debacle that has been Mayweather / Mosley.
What a brilliant, ongoing performance by Floyd Mayweather as he continues to play the role as boxing’s villain.
Sugar Shane even got fired up and questioned Mayweather’s sexual orientation. He then went on to make insinuations that perhaps Mayweather himself has dabbled with steroids.
In a few hours from the time of this writing, the talking stops and the real fight begins.
Back to the original question. How did Mayweather and Mosley suddenly become the top welterweights?
Boxing enthusiast, Dale Pippin commutes from Seligman Missouri to work Rogers. He makes the argument that Pacquiao doesn’t deserve to be at the top of the welterweight list.
“Pacquiao has really only fought one welterweight fight that wasn’t at a catch-weight,” Said Pippin. “How can he be the best in the division? He beat Joshua Clottey, and that makes him the best?”
No, Mr. Pippin.
He’s the best because he is perceived by Ring Magazine (and untold scores of other sources) to be the best.
I might counter with two questions
How can Mayweather be the best when the only person he’s fought since December of 2007 was a bloated lightweight named Juan Manuel Marquez, and the fight was also at a catch-weight?
How could Mosley be the best when he hasn’t fought since February of 2009?

I rest my case.
Most pundits agree that Manny Pacquiao is worthy of the number one title because of his recent accomplishments and ongoing activity.
Pacquiao’s status as the No. 1 Pound for Pound boxer in the sport is unquestionable.
He’s defied all the odds to place himself securely in that spot, and until he’s actually defeated, he will remain there.

The winner of Mayweather / Mosley will have the opportunity to take the top welterweight, and Pound for Pound titles from Pacquiao legitimately.
The only legit way to do it is in the ring.
Until that time, Pacquiao remains at the top.
Regardless of the outcome of “Who R U Picking”, at the end of the night, Pacquiao still wins.
To be the best, you gotta beat the best.
