MANILA, Philippines – More Internet-using Filipinos searched for sports icons and a popular singing contest in the past month.
Data from Google Philippines’ Zeitgeist list showed that golf champion Tiger Woods and 7-division world boxing champ Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao are among the most searched personalities in the country in April this year.
Woods, which was recently caught in a string of controversies over alleged mistresses, made sports headlines by confirming his participation at the 2010 Masters in Augusta, the US Open, the Players Championship, and the AT&T National.
Pacquiao, on the other hand, caught the attention of many Filipinos online after he waqs mocked by US comedian and radio personality Adam Carolla in a podcast. Carolla later apologized as a new bout between Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito was said to be under negotiations.
Other personalities that had the highest level of search queries in April are local and foreign performing artists as well as presidential candidates in the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, more Filipinos searched for American Idol last month as the popular reality show had surprising twists such as a once-only save for contestant Michael Lynch, a Lennon-McCartney Night, and music director Rickey Minor’s exodus to Jay Leno’s late night show.
Cebu and Zamboanga also made it in the fastest rising search topics during the month after tragedies there dominated the provincial headlines.
Other popular search topics for April include games, sports and sports teams.
