Moments ago at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, Floyd Mayweather won a clear and decisive decision over Shane Mosley. Scores of 118-110 and 118-109 twice were read in favor of the Grand Rapids native, who improves his record to 41-0 with 25 knockouts.
The fight?s most suspenseful action came in the second round when Mosley caught Mayweather with a beautiful straight right hand that buckled Floyd?s knees. From that point forward Mosley smothered Mayweather along the ropes and ripped him with body shots and head blows. It was a great round for the 38-year old fighter but it was unfortunately his last sign of true life.
From round three on we were witness to a showcase display from Mayweather, who adapted and landed clean right hands on Mosley all night long. Mosley seemed to be gassed after the midway point of the fight and it was then than Mayweather took complete control.
Rounds seven and eight were showcase rounds for Mayweather as he befuddled Mosley with his speed and appeared to stun him repeatedly with piercing right hands. Mosley began to retreat as Mayweather moved cautiously forward, landing clean punches throughout.
As the fight came to the championship rounds the action came to a lull. Mayweather still was in command of the action but he wasn?t? able to produce the kind of electrifying performance that he was in search of. Despite having to know that he needed a knockout to win the fight, Mosley wasn?t able to pull the trigger in the 12th as he saw the fight slip out of his hands.
Following the victory Maywather noted that he was more aggressive for this contest.
?I wanted to give the fans what they wanted to see,? Mayweather said. ?The fans wanted to see a toe to toe battle and me coming forward. I think we should have pressed the attack earlier and perhaps we could have gotten a knockout. I have to thank God for the victory.?
Now the attention surely will turn to bout between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, who failed to come to terms on a contest earlier this year due to a disagreement on an Olympic style drug testing proposal by Mayweather. The two men moved on in separate directions but we can only hope they find a way to make the fight a reality. For his part, Mayweather says he is ready and willing.
?If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight it?s not hard to find me. We wanted to make the fight happen a couple of months back but we moved on. All I want to do is to be on an even playing field. If you are a clean athlete you should take the test. If he takes the blood and urine test than we can make the fight for all the fans.?
