There are slow news days in sports and just slow days in general.
We all remember slow news day like 42-1 when James “Buster” Douglas actually found a few players including one in Las Vegas media to take a chance against Mike Tyson.
To just bet against Mike, not fight him.
Just four days out from the mega fight of Floyd Mayweather against Sugar Shane Mosley and not much movement in the odds, which still stand at 9:2 (or 4.5-1) in favor of Mayweather.
These are high falutin odds, the fight camps are already here, but the fans just won’t go away like a 25-1 underdog Evander Holyfield about 14 years ago at the MGM Grand against the once again unbeatable “Scrap Iron” Mike Tyson.
I’m not saying it. I’m just saying, it’s a slow news day and if there is either one fighter out there that could change your heart for his Herculean efforts in life and just being human and still doing it with flaws and all at a world class 38 its Mosley, at a juicy 4.5:1!
If you’re already there in Las Vegas, you might as well go for it if it’s not the college fund. You know you have made bigger and much worse bets.
But if there is a fighter who everybody can turn against with just a punch, a glance, a smug nothing at all shoulder roll, even a press conference comment, its Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
If not Mosley, than whom other than Manny Pacquiao would have a shot at the self-proclaimed “pound for pound” king in Mayweather.
Add that Mayweather has basically been retired 21 of the past 28 months.
If these two are second and and third respectively pound for pound (following Pacquiao) and this event was luckily put together at the last minute, I ask, what else is out there for the fans and fighters to hope for?
The odds are going to drop more. I’m not saying panic and bet first. But don’t miss the boat either.
