MANILA, Philippines – Manny Pacquiao will take a break from his hectic campaign on Sunday when he flies in and out of Manila to work the Floyd Mayweather vs Shane Mosley fight which will be aired by GMA-7 and Solar Sports.
Pacquiao will be coming in from Sarangani to work as fight commentator along with Quinito Henson and Chino Trinidad. Then he flies back to his home province right after the fight to take care of his own battle.
Pacquiao is seeking a congressional seat and will be up against a political heavyweight in Rey Chiongbian. Under Comelec rules, the boxing icon can work as commentator as long as he doesn?t touch election issues.
?We checked the Comelec rules. He can work the fight but not talk about the May 10 elections. If he does, then we?re in trouble,? Solar Sports marketing manager Vitto Lazatin told scribes yesterday afternoon.
?Manny Pacquiao?s opinion will be heard because we all know that both Shane Mosley or Floyd Mayweather could end up facing him. Maybe we can get a glimpse of what?s next or who?s next for Pacquiao,? he said.
Solar Sports had hoped for a phone-patch interview with Mayweather yesterday but their efforts fell short. The camp of the undefeated American said it?s too close to the fight for their boxer to do phone-patch interviews.
Over the past weeks, Solar Sports has been conducting the ?Who R U Picking?? online poll on the Mosley-Mayweather fight scheduled May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and so far, Mayweather has the numbers.
Lazatin said Mayweather started out as the overwhelming favorite at 70-30 but over recent days Mosley has started to catch up, making it 55-45. One of his believers include Pacquiao who has picked Mosley as winner.
?He?s bigger and he throws a lot of punches. In boxing, the one who throws more punches, and lands them wins,? said Pacquiao.
