Recently many of us saw Floyd Mayweather Jr dominate a future hall of famer, Shane Mosley. Mosley seemed confused, tight, apprehensive, and awkward on his feet, all of which can be attributed to Mayweather’s defense, and counter ability. Once Floyd figured a few things out, he completely dominated the fight from round 3 until the end. Now, if and when he fights Manny Pacquiao it will be a whole new ball game.
Here are a few differences that Floyd will have to deal with in the ring against Manny Pacquiao. Firstly, Manny Pacquiao doesn’t get nervous and he fears nothing. Pacquiao will not gas out due to being too tight in the early rounds. Shane Mosley entered the ring against Mayweather very tight. He burned up energy quickly due to Mayweather’s defense/counter punching and speed. By the 3rd round Mosley was getting tired not because he was old, and not because he over-trained. Mosley was facing a great fighter, the best that he’s ever faced. He was anxious and burned up energy, he was very tight, all due to Mayweather’s talents.
Manny Pacquiao will enter the ring smiling and waving at his beloved fans. He doesn’t let anything get to him, he’s fearless. Mayweather will have other problems as well. Manny’s speed equals if not surpasses Floyd’s speed. Mayweather will have a plethora of punches coming at him, all of which will have very bad intentions on them. Pacquiao will have to be careful of Floyd’s ability to time but Freddie Roach will have him ready for that.
Another thing that Mayweather will have to deal with is Manny’s youth. Pacquiao is in his prime, he’s not pushing 40 years old. This will be a very close fight if and when it does happen. Mayweather has a lot of answers for Pacquiao, and Pacquiao has a lot of answers for Mayweather.
I spoke with former Pacquiao sparring partner Shawn Porter about what it’s like to be in the ring with Pacquiao. Porter, a Jr middleweight is promoted by Mississippi based Prize Fight Promotions. He told me that being in the ring with Pacquiao was an “amazing experience.” He said that Pacquiao’s power and speed is “incredible.”
Pacquiao vs. Mayweather according to former 3 time heavyweight champ Lennox Lewis will happen sooner or later. Lewis said that “the green monster” will make it happen. Of course green monster meaning money! Both guys can make 40 plus million dollars for this fight, so it’s bound to happen sooner or later. Let’s hope so.
