Floyd Mayweather Jr. seems to be completely obsessed with the possibility of his opponents and potential opponents being on performance enhancing drugs. Shane Mosley has conceded to the random testing demands of Mayweather without hesitation or complaint. It comes as absolutely no shock whatsoever that Mayweather continues his accusatory remarks against Mosley.
David Mayo of the Grand Rapids Press recently reported that Mayweather recently discredited the accomplishments of both Mosley and Pacquiao. (again)
“I can’t see how a guy like Mosley can call himself a great, or how Mosley can call himself a future Hall of Famer, when we don’t know how long he was taking those enhancement drugs. This is something that we don’t know,” Mayweather said.
Mosley did admit to steroid use 7 years ago, but there has been no evidence of any use of enhancement drugs since that time. One would think that Mosley’s willingness to take the random testing would have silenced Mayweather, if only until after the fight.
Mayweather also continued with his unfounded allegations against Manny Pacquiao.
“That’s not for me to put him [Pacquiao] in the Hall of Fame,” Mayweather said. “All I’m saying is, if you’re an athlete, take the test. That’s all I’ve got to say. if you’re a clean athlete, take the test. That’s all I’m saying. That’s all I’ve got to say. If you’re a clean athlete, take the…” (Read the quote over and over again for 5 minutes and you’ll pretty much have everything he said.)
He at least has a flimsly foundation to build on with Mosley, but why the insinuations about Pacquiao?
Obviously, Mayweather is saying that he doesn’t think Pacquiao is a clean athlete, and therefore he wouldn’t take the fully random testing.
As Pacquiao is busy campaigning for his congressional bid, Mayweather’s continual remarks on the subject finally prompted Mosley to fire back.
In a recent interview with ESPN Radio, Mosley turned the tables on his outspoken foe.
“What’s weird to me is that everybody on his whole team, all of his security guards, they look like they’re on steroids. They all look like they’re on ‘roids, and I don’t understand it. I mean, why dies he keep saying, ‘Steroids, steroids, steroids,” Mosley said.
“You know? Maybe, I mean, he has all of these people around him that’s on steroids, maybe he dibbles and dabbles a little bit.” Mosley said. “The guy that keeps talking, you know, the guys that usually talk about it all the time, ‘Oh, steroids, steroids, oh!’ They’re usually the ones on it.”
Ridiculous? Well, Mosley’s statements are no more ridiculous than Mayweather’s accusations against Pacquiao.
Neither Mayweather nor Pacquiao has ever tested positive for any illegal substances. Not steroids, not HGH, not A-Side Meth. But If a guy wants to go around spewing baseless accusations, he should be prepared to have some hurled back at him.
Mosley’s insinuations hold as much water as Mayweather’s allegations toward Pacquiao.
Mayweather goes from discrediting Pacquiao by talking about his losses, and the insignificance of the fighters he’s defeated, then he turns around and alleges that Pacquiao must be on something because he was able to defeat them.
Ridiculous? Absolutely. Mayweather needs to make up his mind. Has Manny Pacquiao done things impressive enough to warrant the PED allegations, or is he just an overrated fighter that has beaten a bunch of bums?
Mayweather is most consistent in his inconsistencies.
Dewayne Berry of Bloomer, Arkansas is an former competitive Martial Arts fighter.
“Mayweather is just making all of this steroid stuff up. He’s building it up for a bigger payday when fights Pacquiao someday down the road. He’s keeping people talking about him, just like we’re doing right now,” Berry said. “Boxers also do things like that to psych out their opponents.”
Boxing enthusiast, Cliff Garrigus of Rogers, Arkansas has a slightly different take on the subject.
“I think he’s doing it so he can duck Pacquiao,” Garrigus said. “He can say anything he wants but until Pacquiao is tested positive, it’s all just Floyd running his mouth as usual.”
These two opposing viewpoints represent the most common thoughts of Arkansan boxing fans. Mayweather is either building the hype for a big fight, or he’s looking for a way out.
Mayweather has managed to tarnish Pacquiao’s legacy to some degree. Sugar Shane Mosley made his comments about the possibility of Mayweather using steroids. Will these comments actually stick?
Pacquiao has not only never tested positive for a drug test, he’s never been found guilty of cheating in any way.
Shane Mosley forgot to mention the reported Xylocaine use and the fact that Mayweather smiled as he stepped on the scales 2 lbs overweight for his fight against the much smaller Juan Manuel Marquez.
Now does this Mayweather fellow really sound like a guy who would cheat?
