The more that I think about this fight, the more I like it. I am not thrilled about the return of Antonio Margarito, because I think that what he was found guilty of could have killed another fighter. With that said, he’s returning to the ring so there is no sense in dwelling on that point.
If it’s true that a Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito fight is shaping up, the more I think about it, the more I like this match up. The taller Margarito will use his reach, and will no doubt come forward. Pacquiao as we all know doesn’t have a reverse gear in his motor either. There should be a lot of punches thrown in this one. In the end, I do not believe that Margarito moves well enough to be able to get away from the barrage of punches that he will have to deal with.
Margarito is a tough customer and will be strong enough to last deep into the fight. As the rounds go on, he will be throwing his share of punches as well and that should make this a good action packed fight. In the end, it will more than likely be Pacquiao’s speed that ends the night though.

I traveled to a few of Jackson, Mississippi’s sports bars and got some thoughts from the boxing fans about this potential fight. I ran into David Johnson, a Jackson resident who is a Manny Pacquiao fan. Johnson’s eyes lit up when I told him that Margarito may be the next opponent for Pacquiao, “Really? oh man, Pacquiao will stop him. I think it’s going to be a fun one to watch though. Both of these guys love to come forward and throw down.” Johnson is right, this fight, if it does happen has fireworks written all over it. I spoke with another boxing fan, Jimmy Pace, of Ridgeland, Mississippi who favors Margarito. Pace believes that Margarito has a decent chance at victory, “I think Antonio Margarito will be rested, and his gas tank will be full. His reach will give Manny trouble, and he throws a lot of punches. I think this could be an upset in the making.”
Mayweather has Mosley to deal with, perhaps twice. There is a rematch clause in their contract, so it may be that Margarito vs. Pacquiao happens around the same time as a second Mayweather vs. Mosley bout. This would make the timing right for an eventual 40 million dollar fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. Or perhaps Shane Mosley will have a little something to say here as well.
