Earlier today at the Mizuya Lounge inside of the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada, living legend Bernard Hopkins participated in an open media workout and later spoke to the press about his April 3rd showdown with fierce rival Roy Jones Jr. While the anticipation towards the fight hasn?t been as high as one might have expected, there is an obvious grudge between both men and their ill feelings seem to be mutual towards one another.
On May 22nd, 1993, Jones won a clear decision over Bernard Hopkins years before either man reached the level of star status in the sport. In the late 90?s and early 2000?s there were constant talks of a Jones-Hopkins II bout but it isn?t until this coming Saturday that we will see it become a reality.
When speaking to the media following his workouts Hopkins pointed out that a return bout with the Pensacola native is something he has always wished for. He also pointed out that when he will punish Jones so severely that he will make him lose his passion for boxing. Jones himself has been confident heading into the bout and it is obvious that this is a clash of egos just as much as it is an encounter of skills.
