Trainer Freddie Roach said yesterday he wants Ring Magazine featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao to continue working on his right hook and ?would like to see him finish this guy (Fahsan 3K Battery) with a right.?
Roach also stressed they will not ?carry him (Fahsan)? but will take him out at the first opportunity.
The American trainer made the comments after the press-public preview at the Wild Card Gym in which the fighters in the Dec. 11 card titled ?Yanig sa Taguig,? which is supported by Smart, Talk N Text and Solar Sports, showed their wares in two rounds of sparring.
Pacquiao, however, only worked the punch mitts for five rounds and amazed a huge crowd of fight fans and media people with his amazing speed and awesome punching power.
Fahsan, who sparred two good rounds but appeared to hold back against Chaiyong Distar, the opponent of RP and OPBF no. 1 super flyweight Z ?The Dream? Gorres, stood on the ring apron and watched Pacquiao in awe.
However, Roach said Pacquiao ?cannot take this guy lightly because he is durable.?
After watching Fahsan spar, Roach told Viva Sports/Manila Standard that the Thai has ?a pretty good right hand and has some power. He is a game guy but leaves himself open for the left hand.?
Roach made it clear that if Pacquiao goes for a knockout in the first round, ?it?s not because we are out of shape,? pointing out that the Filipino fighter was ?in good shape? en route to being in great shape for his Feb. 26 rematch with World Boxing Association/International Boxing Federation champion Juan Manuel Marquez.
The crowd at the press-public preview, which was also attended by international promoter Murad Muhammad and World Boxing Council secretary general Rudy Salud, enjoyed the affair especially when the two Smart round girls ? Diana Zubiri and Juliana Palermo ? showed up, gamely entered the ring, interviewed Pacquiao and answered his questions as TV cameras whirred and fans lapped it up.
Pacquiao said that after seeing two such attractive round girls, he felt he couldn?t knock out Fahsan in the first round and ?deprive the fans of seeing two such beautiful girls.?
Muhammad said: ?This is great and it shows you just how much Smart is putting into this effort to support a great champion and to make the world realize that the Philippines can lay claim to becoming one of the boxing capitals.?
