Heading into his fight against interim WBA Jr. Welterweight champion Marcos Maidana this weekend, 25-year old Victory Manuel Cayo?s confidence is at an all time high. Despite going up against one of the division?s fiercest punchers, Cayo speaks as though he fully understands what he is getting into it.
?I know he is dangerous,? Cayo said before working out Wednesday at Extreme Couture in Las Vegas, Nevada. ?I know he is a very strong fighter ? but strength alone does not win fights.?
Cayo was on hand at the Staples Center last June when Maidana pulled off a fine upset over Victor Ortiz and while the Argentinean showed a lot of strengths on that night, Cayo was able to see things he could capitalize on.
?We saw some flaws in Maidana,? he stated. ??I can beat this guy?, I told my team.?
In closing Cayo spoke of his intense training in Los Angeles the past 2 ? months while pointing to his preparation as keys to his success. While there may be danger in facing someone like Maidana, Cayo insists that is simply how the sport of boxing works.
?I?ve sparred many strong fighters,? says Cayo. ?Maidana is dangerous ? but I am dangerous, too. Just being in the ring is dangerous. I feel I have a potent punch, as well. I have the potential to hurt ? but I also have speed.
