I’m loathe to criticize anybody’s maternal unit especially Pacmom.
I’m afraid a lightning bolt might come through the roof next time I take Holy Communion at Quiapo Church in Manila.
But Ayling Dionesia Pacquiao is wrong about her Megamanny son needing to hang up the gloves.
He could use a good rest, mentally more than physically and now he’s got a four month respite from the rigors of heavy training, as he turns his attention to the Congressional election in Sarangani.
The old saying is Father Knows Best and, while Pacmom has good intentions, there is no compelling reason for her boy, only 31 and never having taken any wicked, sustained beating, to quit the ring.
If he loses in Sarangani against Roy Chiongbian, I think Manny will have had his fill of politics, that he will bow out with an 0-2 record at the polls.
But, if he goes down to defeat at the polls in May, he will be back in the ring in November.
If he wins in Sarangani, he will back in the ring in November.
When you can collect $12 million to fight a schlub like Clottey, you don’ pack it in. You go on a four month hiatus, rest up and come back with a vengeance.
Remember this, my friends, Mayweather is and always will be about two years older than Manny.

Which reminds me that Michigander and veteran boxing trainer Roosevelt “Stacy” McKinley, who has worked with Mike Tyson and Sam Peter among others, was at the Clottey bout at Cowboys Stadium.
McKinley goes way back with all the Mayweathers from Grand Rapids as he was a Toughman tournament champion boxing out of Ann Arbor.
I asked McKinley his thoughts about Mayweather-Pacquiao, three days before Pacman gave Clottey a hiding.
“Manny can win that fight, for sure,” McKinley said. “Floyd has definitely lost a step or two since he came back to boxing. You could see it when he fought Marquez. He won’t get that back, it’s just a part of aging. Her depends on hand and foot movement. They say the legs go first and that punchers retain their punch til the end. Well, Floyd is no puncher.”
I don’t know about you but I’m not thrilled about the next fight menu offered up by Chef Arum and Chef Roach.
The promoter and the trainer are talking up Edwin Valero, Antonio Margarito and Juan Ma as a November foe.
All three are acceptable but none is enthralling, really. None of the three will drive the PPV market much higher than the maybe 650,000 “buys” for Clottey-Pacman.
Valero is known only to a closet size room of fight nuts.
Margarito is devalued because of the handwrap scandal. His countrymen gave him the cold shoulder in Dallas.
Juan Ma already lost 12 out of 12 rounds to Mayweather.
But Manny’s earned an “optional’ type opponent for November.
That can be, should be, his final warmup for the Mayweather Lollapalooza.
There won’t be any Money-Mosley rematch as Money will win decisively on May 1. Nobody will be calling for a second bout.
Then all involved better deliver Money-Pacman for all the money.
Boxing fans and the public at large won’t accept anything else to kick off 2011.
As for Pacmom, she needs to chillax.
