Philadelphia native “Fast” Eddie Chambers (35-1, 18 KO’s) challenges Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko (53-3, 47 KO’s) this Saturday in Germany in an attempt to bring back the heavyweight championship of the world back to the United States. The last time and American held any portion of the heavyweight crown was in 2007 when Shannon Briggs briefly held a title. The last lineal Us champion was Hasim Rahman following his upset KO of Lennox Lewis in 2001.
Chambers thinks he can bring the belts back to the States.
“I am on a mission to beat Wladimir Klitschko and bring those titles back home to the United States. This is serious business and I am going for it, but I also know that I want to take in this experience and enjoy the ride. I am not going to make any fancy predictions. I’m just going to win.” Said Chambers.
His chances of pulling the upset, while not considered great, are about as good as anyone’s right now in the heavyweight division. However, it won’t be easy.
W. Klitschkko, The lineal and Ring Magazine heavyweight champ, has won won 11 fights in a row with 9 of those wins coming by way of KO. Within that list of victims includes former titleholders Sam Peter, Lamon Brewster, Chris Byrd, Sultan Ibragimov, Hasim Rahman and Ruslan Chagaev. Wlad has clearly established himself as the best heavyweight in the world and has that impressive record, if not the respect from American fans, to prove it.
Chambers is a light punching small heavyweight who Teddy Atlas even suggeted may be better suited for cruiserweight during the broadcast of his fight against Derric Rossy in 2007. Chambers will have to use his boxing skills and quickness to negafte Klitschko’s sometimes robotic looking left jab and crushing overhand right that together methodically ahve helped put almost 84% of his victims away.
It’s no easy task, but Chambers appears to be ready to put his best effort forward and make the United States proud.
