HOLLYWOOD—Longtime boxing promoter Rex “Wakee” Salud thinks Manny Pacquiao continues to grow as a boxer and is currently in a phase where he is peerless.
“Unbeatable,” said Salud of Pacquiao, adding that the fight against Joshua Clottey proved just how tactical Pacquiao has become nowadays.
Salud said there’s nowhere else for the 31-year-old Filipino superstar to go but to Floyd Mayweather Jr., who faces Shane Mosley on May 1.
The two fighters were supposed to settle the pound-for-pound argument with a March 13 showdown, but talks collapsed over drug-testing protocols.
“It’s the fight Manny wants,” said Salud. “It’s the fight the fans want. Sooner or later, it’s going to happen.”
