Edison Miranda is one of the sport’s most exciting performers. In 2008, Miranda’s knockout of David Banks on ESPN was viewed by many as the knockout of the year. As a result even though he’s lost fights to Arthur Abraham, Kelly Pavlik, and Andre Ward, his combative style and power are made for television and that’s why Miranda 33-4 (29) has had so many opportunities. In fact this past winter he had to pull out of a fight with WBO 168 pound champ Robert Stieglitz due to illness and immediately lined up another title fight against IBF champ Lucian Bute on April 17 in Montreal, Canada.
In an interview with the Examiner.com, Miranda talked about his appeal and his title fight opportunity and noted “I’m very content, my team is happy, and we have a plan set to assure that I’m going to become champion on April 17. I always give the fans a war and that’s what they want, a war. That’s what tv wants because that’s what sells and that’s what I do. I’m going to try to box a little and calm down a bit and do some of the things I have learned with Dan Goosen, but a knockout is always going to happen. I’m used to fighting abroad so it won’t affect me fighting him in his hometown.”
On april 27 Allan Green and Andre Ward are fighting for the WBA super-middleweight title and having already fought both contestants, Edison is familiar with both boxers and commented, ”All fights are difficult, I can’t pick a winner, but Andre Ward is very hard to hit.” Miranda also weighed in on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey mega-bout this coming Saturday and noted, “Clottey is a very passive fighter, very defensive and that is going to favor Pacquiao. I think it will go ten or eleven rounds and Pacquiao is going to win the fight.”
