Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield 3?

Forget Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather, the heavyweights are delivering this year’s most anticipated bout of 2010. Thirteen years in the making, we are now getting the most thrilling bout in heavyweight histor, Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield 3! Okay, not buying? Nobody’s going to blame you here.

After it’s already been announced that we are going to get Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey vs Manny Pacquiao, but ESPN is reporting that Don King has come out of the woodwork in attempts to get a bit of the big fight cash.

The question is, does anyone care? Mike Tyson hasn’t stepped into the ring in nearly five years. More importantly he looks like he hasn’t stepped int the ring in more than five years. Tyson’s last hit came on the big screen, The Hangover, and he’s lost three of his last four fights.

Mike Tyson’s opponent isn’t exactly the dominant fighter he once was either. Evander Holyfield is also riding a two fight losing streak and hasn’t won a fight in nearly three years.

Let’s be honest. Nobody will be watching this fight in hope to see a great boxing match, but fans will tune in to see a spectacle or stunt. Telling it like it is, Women’s College Basketball player, and Baylor freshman, Brittney Griner probably demonstrated more power in her one punch fight last night than we’ll see all night…but again that won’t stop people from tuning in.

We don’t want to know if these former heavyweight champions have the same spunk they used to. We’re more interested if Tyson has the bite that we remember him for. Or better yet, if Holyfield will one up him.

Maybe we’ll all be spared of the circus act and boxing won’t receive a black eye with two fighters who don’t know they’ve passed their prime.

Then again, maybe it’s up to boxing fans to decide if the fight’s relevant or not. Are you interested in Tyson vs Holyfield III? Let us know.
