The Halloween is yet to come, but the handlers of Gairy St. Clair have already portrayed an image of Pacman being frightened of a ghostly apparition of the ?Black Superman.?
After reports broke out that people?s featherweight champion Manny Pacquiao is ducking from a fight against St. Clair, the management of the Australia-based Guyanese brawler was quick to point out that the Filipino ?Destroyer? is just too scared to face the ?Black Superman.?
Initially, Pacquiao was set to battle St. Clair on December 4 in a non-title bout in Manila, but it seems that the highly-anticipated showdown is unlikely to happen following the sudden twist of events.
This as Pacquiao?s business manager Rod Nazario said that negotiations are being finalized to bring ex-WBF bantamweight titlist Fahsan 3-K Battery to Manila for the fight that will serve as Pacquiao?s tuneup for a rematch with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in Las Vegas on February 26.
Nazario?s surprise announcement has somehow disappointed St. Clair?s trainer and manager, Craig Christian, who claimed that he even turned down a WBO shot against Scotty Harrison because he had already given his word to Team Pacquiao.
Christian said they are now staring at the possibility of missing out on the Pacquiao fight because the Filipino?s advisers are not confident in Manny?s ability to handle the talent of St. Clair.
?Gairy will beat Manny Pacquiao easily and after watching a tape I gave them of Gairy I think they have decided Gairy has too much ability for Manny? Christian told mannypacquiao.ph.
?St. Clair is too good for him and they know it.I am just upset because I gave my word and the tape that I sent them showed off too much of Gairy?s talent. A report by Joaquin Henson of Philippine Star cited that St. Clair was demoted in the order of battle because he will likely run more than fight in a Pacquiao faceoff.
St.Clair is known for his footwork and boxing skills. Lack of power is why St. Clair isn?t inclined to brawl and go toe-to-toe.
?We don?t want to see Manny chasing his opponent all over the ring,? said Pacquiao?s US promoter Murad Muhammad. ?We want to give Manny?s Filipino fans their money?s worth. We want a competitive fight. We want an opponent who can give Manny trouble. We want to see Manny at his best.?
Muhammad reportedly dangled a staggering $500,000 purse for Pacquiao and that the General Santos City-native punisher has already advanced about P5 million from Nazario and Muhammad.
