HOLLYWOOD—It’s not one of the typical harbingers of spring by any means.
But there is a noticeable thaw in the heretofore icy relationship between the promoters of Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
Richie Rich Schaefer will have to stop making so much sense before people think he’s returned to the banking world.
As a pragmatic businessman, the Golden Boy honcho is now saying it’s time to turn the page and not rehash all the bickering, all the blather about random blood testing.
Like me, Schaefer wonders why anyone with a modicum of intelligence even listens to the nonsensical oral dribblings emanating from those two “Roads Scholars,” Floyd Senior and his babbling brother, Roger.
Last I heard, Roger thinks the Philippine army is immune to bullets and is about to undertake total world domination with their mystery substance. I wonder how A. Hitler never developed this magic potion. If he had it, his army might have rolled all the way through Russia.
I dig what Schaefer’s saying.
Why should the media and fans listen to the elder Mayweathers when L’il Floyd barely pays them any attention himself?
Like I said, Schaefer keeps making sense. AP Photo
With Mayweather-Sugar Shane Mosley May 1 fight ducats going on sale today I believe, Schaefer’s main chore is revving up that promotion.
But his bigger agenda will be to get Pacman-Mayweather, a jumbo jackpot of a fight in which the Goldens will thrust a big hand in both fighters’ pockets, back on track.
With all the hot air, all the gas coming from Mayweather and minions about the dire need for random blood testing, I got to wondering who the hell they think is going to pay the considerable expense of implementing it in Nevada. Enzo 360, Three Stars and the Sun Blogspot
Nevada state government is, like the other 49 states, reeling from the economic shockwaves of the past few years.
In fact, things are so bad in Nevada that almost all state agencies, including the athletic commission which supervises boxing and MMA competition, is about to go to a four day workweek.
With such a financial pinch, the boxing board is not about to go to hard pressed legislators and ask for a big chunk of money to get random blood testing rolling.
Schaefer, a relatively smart guy, knows this. His company is based here amidst the economic wreckage of California. We may or may not see full random testing used for the inevitable Pacman-Mayweather bout but, if we do, it will be the simpler, less costly random urine testing format.
Schaefer knows that as well.
Somebody better warn RR, though.
Being so pratical and so logical, well that might be enough to get himself drummed out of the Boxing Promoters Association.
You know, for making the rest of them look so bad.
They said it would a snowy day on the beaches of Socal when Marley agreed with Schaefer.
But don’t blame me, the man has let loose with a blizzard of sensible comments and ideas.
He’s right on, Manny, Floyd, Bob Arum…all of us..we need to turn the pages and throw away the syringes. Usually, I am giving Oscar and Richie Rich the needle but not today, not now.
