PALM SPRINGS, CA – Super Six contestant Arthur Abraham, 31-0 (25 KO’s) has decided to leave his American training camp for his home in Berlin, Germany temporarily to continue his training for Andre Dirrell March 27 in Detroit, Michigan on Showtime Network.
The bout was scheduled for March 6 at a nearby Rancho Mirage, CA casino but a back injury suffered by Dirrell caused a 21 – day delay for the main event which is stage two of the tournament of the world’s best 168 lbs. super middleweights.
Promoter Sauerland Event, Abraham and coach Ulli Wegner were in on the decision to close the Palm Springs camp, where Abraham had been training since February 8.
Hagen Doering, matchmaker for Sauerland Event, the biggest promotional firm in Europe, said the move back to Berlin, could be confirmed as early as Saturday afternoon.
“I think a trip back to Berlin to prepare for March 27 is in Arthur’s best interests,” said Doering from Palm Springs. “We’ll decide for certain Saturday and be prepared to leave Sunday. We enjoyed our stay in Palm Springs. We would certainly consider coming back. We couldn’t control this situation of Dirrell getting injured.”
Abraham, 30, is one of the favorites to win the tournament and was impressive in knocking out Jermain Taylor in Berlin back in October in stage one of the tournament.
