Legendary country singer Johnny Cash famously sang about his wardrobe of black clothing in his 1971 hit “The Man in Black”. The lyrics of the song state, “I wear black for the poor and the beaten down / Living in the hopeless hungry side of town.”
While there is certainly many people who feel beaten down and who live on the hungry hopeless side of their town, who feel that Pacquiao is fighting for them when he steps into the ring, Pacquiao is still no Johnny Cash.
Why? Because apparently he doesn’t wear black.
Recently during a visit to the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, CA, a gym owned by Massachusetts native Freddie Roach and the site of Pacquiao’s training camp, my colleagues at www.8countnews.com tried to get Pacquiao to take a photo wearing an 8countnews.com T-Shirt. One problem though, the shirt was black.
Pacquiao, ever the superstitious athlete, we were told does not wear black during training camp.
8countnews.com got their picture. In it, you’ll see website owner Brad Cooney wearing his 8coutnnews.com t-shirt while Pacquiao is holding, not wearing his.
Pacquiao may fight for the poor and beaten down like Cash. They both also play guitar. But Pacquiao is not “The man in Black.”
