MANNY Pacquiao is decidedly the best fighter in the world among featherweights these days. He may not be the finest craftsman just yet, but he has attained that level of skills, which, combined with that very rare extraordinary punching power, makes him the most fearsome of featherweights, or junior lightweights around. In fact, Pacquiao is too good for anyone weighing between 120 and 130 pounds in the business.
The lords of the rings like Bob Arums and Don Kings have their own stable of boxers they like to protect. These are their chief vehicles of business and sources of revenues. Good sense dictates they should be protected from any possible source of destruction as long as possible. And, the potential destroyer of these, their merchandise, is Manny Pacquiao.
All of them, Arum and the rest like him, have seen how Manny demolished their erstwhile golden boys in non-title fights. So, why should they expose them to sure destruction by letting them fight Manny in a title fight? Not just yet, not until they have decided these babies have paid off. Why kill the hen that lays the golden egg while it lays eggs? When the powers that be, would decide the time is ripe – when Manny has weakened for some reasons, or they have decided that their boys are up for disposal, then we will see. That’s the business part of boxing. Meantime, avoid Manny like the plague.
The truth of the matter is, their boys – Barrera and Morales and Marquez–are scared of Manny. In fact, all they guys who had a taste of that bitter conditions inside a ring with Manny, avoid having have to go through the experience again if they can help it, despite their bravado. Dumb is the fellow who would again cross a crocodile-infested swamp if he can go another way. It’s already hard going as it is, why make it harder?
So, in the meantime, Murad Muhammad, Manny and company, would have to do their pickings elsewhere, where Arum and company would have them–not with their pet dogs whose tails are between their legs when around Pacquiao.
Pacquiao is too good for the good of their business, for now anyway. Wait when they think they are ready to send their wards, Barrera, Marquez, Morales, etc. to the dumps, or when they think they have found cracks in Manny’s marbles, then, they will be the ones to call.
