World Boxing Organization featherweight champion Scott Harrison has offered Ring Magazine People?s Champion Manny Pacquiao a title shot in Glasgow and a purse of $1 million, according to Team Pacquiao?s Moy Lainez.
Lainez told Viva Sports/Manila Standard that the information was relayed to him by Pacquiao?s business manager Rod Nazario yesterday.
However, Nazario?s son Roberto ?Boying? Nazario, who handles his father?s boxing business in the US said: ?That?s news to me.?
However, there were no details on whether Harrison?s scheduled title defense against Ethiopia?s undefeated Kebede on Oct. 29 will be called off in order to push through with the Pacquiao showdown possibly in mid or late November.
Viva Sports/Manila Standard initiated the negotiations between Team Pacquiao and Harrison?s manager Frank Maloney, who had earlier told the sports network that his fighter was prepared to consider a title defense against the Filipino southpaw but wanted to know, who would promote the fight, where it would be held and what Pacquiao brought to the table.
After Viva Sports forwarded the information to Nazario and promoter Murad Muhammad, Team Pacquiao took over the negotiations, resulting in Harrison?s camp reportedly making an offer but virtually insisting that the fight be held in the Scotman?s hometown.
Nazario was ?thinking it over? and was going to discuss the offer with Murad since it appeared that the promoter would be left out of the picture.
In fact, Murad told Viva Sports/Manila Standard in an overseas telephone conversation that he was against fighting Harrison especially in Glasgow because of his fear of a hometown decision where Harrison would be on his feet at the end of the fight and get the decision.
Meantime, Pacquiao was at ringside to watch World Boxing Association/International Boxing Federation champion Juan Manuel Marquez score a comfortable decision over Oscar Salido to retain his title in preparation for a possible rematch with Pacquiao in February next year.
Pacquiao was accompanied by ?Forty? Nazario, brother Bobby Pacquiao, the Philippine super featherweight champion, OPBF No. 1 super flyweight Z ?The Dream? Gorres and trainer Buboy Fernandez.
