The date for Marco Antonio Barrera’s next fight is going to be on November 27 although no opponent has been named yet. However, the names of universal featherweight king Manny Pacquiao and WBO No.1 super-featherweight Mike Anchondo are high on the list.
Marylyn Aceves, chief of public relations for Golden Boy Promotions, in an interview with the Pac-Man’s official website, revealed that “the Saturday fight date has been sealed for the possible pay-per-view event.”
“We are considering the best options for Marco Antonio Barrera. Definitely, he will fight on November 27,” Aceves was quoted as saying.
Barrera, who is coming off a knockout win over Paulie Ayala, will try to avenge his defeat at the hands of the Filipino ring idol, and the possibility of holding it on Nov. 27 isn’t going to be remote.
If Barrera is pitted against the unbeaten 22-year-old Anchondo (25-0, 18 Kos), who campaigns in the 130-lb division, the Mexican boxing idol would have to climb a notch higher and aim for a possible Barrera-Morales III, should he beat Anchondo.
Also high on Pacquiao’s hit list of possible opponents are WBC champ Injin Chi of South Korea, whose manager Kusung Lee had earlier been quoted as being very interested to accept the fight on one condition: that Chi does not get a purse lower than that of Pacquiao’s.
Also being considered for Pacquiao is WBO titlist Scott Harrison of England. Pacquiao and his handlers are planning to hold the bout here in the Philippines if Murad Muhammad fails to come up with his much-publicized miracles.
