Since the impressive showings of Gamboa and Lopez in their last fight on HBO, boxing fans have been clamoring for a blockbuster fight between the two young stars.
Arum, however, has said that he wants to hype up the fight to maximize the earnings of both fighters. There are rumors that Gamboa might be pitted against Caballero later this year, but I won’t hold my breath on that one since the latter might be deemed too risky of an opponent.
The only thing for sure is that they won’t be facing each other for their next fight as it was announced during the Pinoy Power 3 weigh in that Juan Manuel Lopez will most likely face the winner of Concepcion vs. Santiago later this year.
Although not the fight that everyone has been hoping for; Concepcion and Santiago are legitimate foes for Lopez and can provide a decent test for Puerto Rican star. Although Concepcion might provide the tougher match-up due to his quickness and punching power. Santiago is a slick boxer who can disrupt Lopez rhythm for awhile but his lack of punching can be his biggest downfall against a versatile and hard punching fighter such as Lopez.
So as the fans demand the matchup between arguably the two best featherweights, they must first settle for the appetizers with the hope that it’s not a seven course meal and they get through the whole meal.
