Mayweather’s 431,000 Twitter Followers vs. Pacquiao’s 242,000 Facebook Fans – The Battle Continues…

Jan 20, 2010 – It’s one of the battles that “Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather Jr. is apparently winning.

It’s the battle of online supremacy as to who exactly is the more popular figure in the sport of boxing… Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather Jr.

While Manny Pacquiao has created quite an online stir through news outlets Pacland aka mannypacquiao.ph and Philboxing.com, there’s no denying Mayweather’s Twitter presence that is quickly approaching the half million follower mark as being remarkable within itself.

There are no other boxers out there at this very moment that come even close to the internet followings of both Manny and Floyd.

For those of you that don’t know, Twitter is a quasi-social network that allows someone to correspond with their “followers” in a somewhat real-time basis. Should Mayweather take a walk down to the store, he could “Tweet”, “I’m walking down to the store” and his 431,000 followers would receive that announcement either via sms text message on their phones or as soon as they logged into their Twitter accounts the next time.

In essence, if all those 431,000 followers of Floyd are indeed “real” people and not fake accounts, Mayweather has the direct ear of over 431,000 people virtually instantaneously.

There is no boxing promoter or boxing website out there today that exudes that type of direct contact and control over the boxing fan base.

So if one would like to get completely technical… Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the most powerful online figure in boxing today.

Manny Pacquiao is no slouch in his own right but unless his 242,000 number on Facebook surpasses that of Floyd, there is only one clear pound-for-pound internet king in boxing today.

Floyd Mayweather Jr.
