Pacquiao, beware the Ides of March: Clottey may be rampaging elephant

Liberal Lion Ted Kennedy must be spinning like a gyroscope in his grave today.

Not to mention how his assassinated brothers, Jack and Bobby, must be scratching their heads.

I mean, we’re talking Massachusetts where my Irish grandmother, Marion Corbett, taught the wee ones to remember “that when you grow up, you can vote for the Kennedy of your choice.”

I can tell you this, all the Sweeneys and all the Griffins, cosigned that Hibernian advice.

That taps you hear playing? That’s for the Kennedy dynasty.

Times have changed. The Liberal Lion has got be crying because the chosen donkey, a feckless DA named Martha Coakley (or Chokeley, as the joke goes) got stomped on by a little known elephant named Scott Brown.

Brown is headed to Washington to be a thorn in President Obama’s side.

I mention this because what is Joshua Clottey, the game Ghanaian underdog to P4P king Manny Pacquiao in their March 13 bout in Dallas, but another Scott Brown, a lightly regarded opponent who gets damned with faint praise.

Before the electoral earthquake which rocked so many Massholes, I’d have said Clottey cannot upset the Pacman applecart in Jerry Jones $1.2 billion gridiron palace which is actually located not in Big D but up the road apiece in Arlington.

Today, this morning as I survey the wreckage those independent voters and renegade Dems caused in my home state, the Bay State, I am not as sure.

Brown is a feisty guy whose self belief was strong. Maybe Clottey, who did not embarrass himself by any means through 12 rounds last June against formidable Miguel Cotto, has the same kind of fire in his belly that the GOP winner showed.

Maybe Clottey will summon strength under fire and not remove his foot from the gas pedal down the stretch, in the so called “money rounds,” like he did against the Puerto Rican in the Garden.

The Garden was a Boricua lion’s den with the Cotto fans roaring long and loud on the night before the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Clottey was no shrinking violet. He brought some to get some and it wound up as a split verdict victory for Cotto.

I’ll save deeper analysis for a date closer to “The Event” in Texas.

But can Clottey win?

I would tell you that there is no way in hell.

But I’d have said the same thing about Scott Brown.

Perhaps Mr. Pacquiao had best look at the calendar and harken back to the Roman Empire.

What if yon Johsua hath a lean and hungry look?

If so, then I can say only thing to Manny Pacquiao.

Beware the Ides of March!
