We’re quickly moving on from the soap opera that was Pacquiao-Mayweather but there is still one last question that abounds regarding the saga.
As I’m sure all of you know by now, both ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas and NY Daily News scribe Tim Smith have come under extreme fire in recent times as they have cited an e-mail regarding someone within Manny Pacquiao’s team questioning the possible reprecussions of the “Pacman” possibly testing positive for a performance enhancing substance.
As far as I’m concerned, there are only 4 people in this world that are important enough within Team Pacquiao to truly be considered as part of “Team Pacquiao”.
Those four people I’m referring to are:
Freddie Roach (trainer) Michael Koncz (advistor) Alex Ariza (strength and conditioning coach) Buboy Fernandez (lead henchman and strategist)
I’m sure that there are other key figures within the Pacquiao circle that play some sort of pivotal role in Manny’s preparation for his prize fights but in regards to the main figures being distinctly recognized as decision makers within his team, those 4 mentioned above are the only ones that count.
So my next question is… who out of the 4 sent that notorious e-mail?
Freddie Roach? Not a chance in hell.
Michael Koncz? While possibly the most despised figure amongst the four people… I have no doubt that Koncz would never in his wildest drunken dreams even think about sending such a proposterous e-mail.
Alex Ariza? You must be joking.
Buboy Fernarndez? He’s much too busy shoveling handfuls of tasty morsels down his throat.
So what now?
If Roach, Koncz, Ariza, and Hernandez didn’t send the infamous e-mail… who exactly did?
Was it someone posing as being part of Team Pacquiao?
Was it a Filipino scribe who floated around this ridiculous question via e-mail?
Was it yours truly who started a fake hotmail account under the name… [email protected]?
Perhaps it was Michael “The White Orangutan” Marley who is notorious for spreading rumors and gossip amongst the boxing media circles.
Seriously though, only in boxing could an e-mail sent by one of the 1.6 billion internet users be considered as a viable reason to point the finger.
Just for the information of the general public… if an e-mail was sent by anyone in this world to the proverbial “smoking boxing gun”, it would be extremely simple to track down at what time it was sent, from what location, from what account, and if everyone wanted to dig even further, I’m sure video tape, receipts, and the like could be tracked down to find the culprit.
In this day and age, nothing is safe from anonymity online.
We are in a technological revolution so anyone who planted this seed without thinking all of this madness through is a complete and utter moron.
Being that Manny Pacquiao’s entourage and hanger-ons consists of literally hundreds of people, it could have been any of them that asked this stupid question. Does that really make them part of his team?
I know a fellow who has ties to Team Mayweather… if I have stated my affiliation with a guy who is affiliated with Floyd would that make me part of Team Mayweather? Tongue twisters anyone?
Let me state the simplicity of this all:
Create fake e-mail account.
Title the initial e-mail as “Inquiry about drug testing for Pacquiao-Mayweather bout.”
State your ties to Team Pacquiao citing direct correspondence with key players in the camp including Manny in the body of the e-mail.
Let key figures within the U.S. Media run with it.
Using my very limited resources, I could find out from exactly what computer sent that e-mail in a matter of hours. Finding out exactly who logged onto that computer at that very moment might take a few more hours or days but it could be done rather simply.
