Mayweather vs. Mosley – Step Aside Berto

With arch rival Manny Pacquiao having already signed to fight on the same date of March 13, the Boxing world is eagerly awaiting the announcing of Mayweather’s next opponent.

In perfect world fighters like enter a 10 to 12 week training camp to prepare for a fight, team Mayweather has less than eight. We know Floyd keeps himself in superb physical condition amid fights, and is most likely training as the writing of this article, however with no opponent in mind it’s hardly adequate preparation.

There is also the small matter of promoting the fight, Mayweather has 55 days. Now considering Manny Pacquiao is fighting on the same night and against a credible challenger, and with his campaign already kicked into gear. Everywhere you turn Uncle Bob can be heard selling this fight due to take place in what Arum describes as the greatest venue on Planet Earth. Make no mistake, perhaps Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are not competing in the ring come March 13. But you can be assured of one thing, as the dust settles on the night’s action our attention will swing toward the PPV numbers. It’s here the two will meet in a head to head, and from my vantage point I only see one outcome, a win for Pacquiao via a devastating knockout, tarnishing the self-proclaimed face of boxing image that Floyd projects himself to be.

Boxing insiders where of the opinion Mayweather was awaiting the outcome of Shane Mosley – Andre Berto due to take place on January 30. This would make a March 13 date almost impossible but it would provide Mayweather with a perfect escape exit from going head to head with Pacquiao on the PPV numbers.

Others believe talks are ongoing to have Berto step aside to pave the way for a Mosley – Mayweather fight. Before the Pacquiao debar co many fans where voicing the name of Shane Mosley, especially after Mosley’s ringside antics at the end of Mayweather’s last fight, where Mosley approached the undefeated Mayweather and interrupted his post fight interview to call him out. If there is any truth in this the compensation offered to Berto could be generous with a possible guaranteed fight against the winner, this could be enough to make this fight a real possibility.

Paul Williams is the only other opponent that would make fans reach deep into their pockets, the Punisher has already said is ready to fight and would meet Mayweather in the welterweight division.
