BOXINGTALK’S MASSIVE MAYWEATHER-PACQUIAO MAILBAG

*Because I have received over 100 emails on this subject we are going to have to do a 2-part Mailbag in order to get through some great emails. This is part 1, part 2 to follow shortly*

I don’t expect this to be printed into your mailbag because I’m going to shut you down point by point from your article titled:” PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER: WHAT’S RIGHT, WHAT’S WRONG AND HOW DO WE FIX IT?” Warning….this will be long. First of all. I don’t get the Virgin Mary thing. How is Pac acting like Jesus? He’s not curing the blind, turning water to wine, dying for our sins, or converting the masses. So please explain that one…Which fighter agreed to the fight first? The real question is, who signed on for the fight first? Not Floyd Mayweather. Manny Pacquiao did. He even took a picture of it. As a matter of fact, of the two fighters, Manny is the only one that has come out and directly said that he WANTS to fight the other guy. Floyd only says that he WOULD fight Pac. Floyd can talk all the crap he wants about fighting Pac but it don’t mean anything until he puts ink on the dotted line. Which fighter is agreeing to all the stipulation in this fight? Yes, you’re right Floyd Mayweather. My question is, why would Pac agree to any of the terms set by the Mayweather camp? Let’s take a look at some of those demands, shall we? Have the fight at 154? C’mon Pac has never fought at 154, while Floyd has. They’ve both fought at 147 though. So why not have the fight at a weight they are both comfortable in? Besides, he already has a significant size and reach advantage, why make the fight at even more in Floyds favor? 10oz gloves? While, Pac could have agreed to this, this would hardly be a negotiation killer. So it’s nothing that Pac HAS to agree to. So if you look at Floyd’s demands, you will see that they are dumb. Besides, it’s called negotiating power. If it had been any other fighter, then you can bet that Floyd would get all his demands, no matter how lopsided they are. In this case though, he doesn’t, which would suggest that he knows that he isn’t the bigger draw.

Who’s threatening to kill the fight? I agree, Uncle Bob should just shut his fat mouth on this one. Although there were articles that suggested that Floyd didn’t want the fight unless it was at 154. I’m sure though, that that was just a bluff to try to get the wiggle room on the scales. Which is why there is a $10mil penalty. Floyd wanted wiggle room for a fight that is already set at the welterweight maximum. That would mean he wants to come in weighing as much as a Junior Middleweight. Now if you were managing a fighter, would you let the opponent come in one weight class higher? Hell no you wouldn’t. The Marquez fight was set at 144 with a $300,000 dollar penalty and Floyd paid it without blinking an eye. Which totally screwed over Marquez, because he was in absolutely no position to walk away from the fight. Especially on Mexican Independence day. So in this case, it’s setup so that Floyd can come in weighing whatever he wants, but he’s has to pay a huge fine. That, unlike Floyd’s testing demands, actually makes sense given the context of the situation.

True, Mayweather Jr. never verbally said that Pac was on any kind of drugs. But by saying that the Philippines has the best PED’s in the world, he’s basically backing his Father’s claim by offering what he feels is “proof”. BTW. There is no reason for Floyd to be putting all this crap out into the media. He could have easily said that the fight won’t go through because of a disagreement in negotiations. That’s it. He (and his team) didn’t have to go out and tell everybody that they thought Pac was hiding something, then insisted that he’s doping. It’s called professionalism. But this is boxing and it is FLoyd Mayweather. So I guess expecting professionalism would be foolish.

Blaming Pac for the Malignaggi decision is dumb. Pac doesn’t make his own fights. Hell, Floyd doesn’t really make his own fights. Or at least that’s what he suggested during the post-fight interview with Max Kellerman. Besides, when has Pac been picky about who he fights? He fights whoever they put in front of him, and no one with any credibility has questioned it. By your logic, then Floyd fought Marquez because he didn’t want to bite off more than he could chew by fighting Cotto, Williams, Clottey, Quintana or any other solid welterweight, hell he could have had a rematch with Judah. But he fought Marquez to play it safe while still fighting a name. Which is kinda the theme for the tail end of Floyd’s career, no?

Floyd did offer to take the same tests, but that doesn’t mean that it will affect him the same way. Team Mayweather maintains that there is no way that the USADA testing would weaken anybody. Some people are weakened by blood tests, other aren’t. I don’t know why, but that’s just the way it is. Pac’s experience with blood testing close to a fight is that it weakens him. He tested just before the Morales fight and he claimed it weakened him. So it is what it is. Why would anybody, willing take a test that has weakened them before, right before the biggest fight of their career, against the most gifted technical boxer alive? Why would anyone do that? For $40 Mil? Hell no. Athletes, real athletes have pride. It’s not all about money, well at least for the ones not named Floyd Mayweather. How many athletes have taken pay cuts to be put on a championship team? karl Malone or Gary Peyton ring a bell? Not a single self-respecting athlete would put themselves through un-necessary testing that could cost them their career defining victory. None. They’ll do whatever their league asks of them, and that’s it. Just like Pac is doing now.

Ya know, you got it backwards. Manny doesn’t have to prove anyone wrong, because there is nothing solid that proves that he should be under suspicion in the first place. He wasn’t named on the Mitchell report. He isn’t affiliated with any shady characters or BALCO. He didn’t get mentioned in Jose Canseco’s books. The only thing they got is that Manny’s rise through the weights is beyond their limited comprehension. Which if they actually researched Manny’ career, they’d see how hard he actually had to work to get to the point he’s at now. How about Camp Mayweather offer something solid, then make Manny jump through hoops. If Mayweather can’t do that, then they just need to shut the hell up.

Manny satisfy the fans? Now that’s laughable. Why should Manny satisfy the fans? If any of the fans suspect him of doping, then they aren’t real fans. He’s not gonna win over the Floyd fans because they are convinced he’s on something. Even if he did test clean, people will just say “he beat the test, because the Philippines in the next generation in PED’s. marion Jones beat the test. All of professional biking beats the test. Why not Manny?” You know that’s what they’ll say. Please, satisfy the fans? How about Floyd satisfy the fans by making an exciting fight with a quality opponent.

Arum would destroy you. Hell, I’M destroying you.

It’s harassment because there is no reason why Mayweather can’t drop this issue. By insisting Pac do something he doesn’t want to do and has no reason to do it, then that’s harassment. Like when telemarketers call you endlessly while you are in no way interested in their product, but they just keep calling. That’s harassment. The $10mil penalty is not harassment, thats a legitimate precaution. Drug addicts and drug related convicts take drug tests because they have a history, no matter how inconvenient the testing is. In this case, Floyd has a history of breaking weight. What makes it worse is that he did it on purpose. What’s Pacs history? Officially, it’s clean. You should learn the differences between two things.

Jedi Mind tricks? lol…more like JEWdi mind tricks.

What exactly is “unreasonable” about Pac’s demands?

And even if they did have Mosely take olympic style testing, GBP wouldn’t let him do it. Judah asked Mosley to take the test (I’m like you in that I’m positive Mosley is no longer doping. I think he got Barry Bonds’ed and took it unknowingly) but GBP shot the idea down. So why the contradiction on their part? Why is it so unreasonable to ask a known doper to test, but it’s perfectly normal to ask a guy with a clean history to test? That makes zero sense.

I agree that the NSAC should implement stricter drug policies. However, the NSAC is a very respected organization. So it’s all too possible that they no a lil more on the topic than we do. Ramirez and the like that you mentioned all appeared to be good people. What makes the situation different is that they tested dirty and Manny (Pacquiao) has not. And everyone knows that baseball has a terrible drug policy, and these guys still got caught. Although nothing trumps professional biking.

Also, if they do make random testing apart of the S.O.P, then it will happen after this fight, and prolly not until after the first half of 2010 for fights that havn’t been made already. I don’t think they’d have Mosley-Berto tests since the contracts were already drawn up and signed.

I guess I fail to see how Floyd isn’t the one jerking people around. Arum even called it immediately after the Cotto fight. He asked Floyd to not turn negotiations into a media circus and to handle the negotiation professionally. I find it incredibly odd how the Floyd camp is twisting things. The report about the Olympic style testing came out more than 3 weeks ago, and even then Team Pacquiao said that they would test but wouldn’t test so close to the fight. Nobody said anything then. Then Floyd makes a big deal about the fight weight and wiggle room and threatens to “pull out”. That was a lil more then 2 weeks ago. Team Mayweather’s claim that Pac is hiding something because he doesn’t want to test came out after the $10 mil penalty was added. So why didn’t Team Mayweather make a big deal about the testing when the report was first made? If fair testing is such a big deal, then why skip over it and try to negotiate weight, and only come back to it after your weight demands are not met? If anything is fishy, then that’s fishy.

Anyhow, yeah, I guess they are both Divas. But don’t get it twisted, Mayweather is the one complicating things. Pac has come out twice and asked Floyd to shut up and fight. Floyd has hidden behind Haymon and GBP. If all Pac wants is to not be tested the week of the fight, then I don’t see what Floyds’ problem is, unless he intentionally wants Pac to test those days, or doesn’t want the fight. The last week of the fight shouldn’t be a big deal for Floyd because the fighters barley train during that week. Most sparring is over as well as major drills. I’m not sure how much Floyd thinks Manny can “enhance” himself the last week of training with minimal work-outs. Besides, Manny is still offering to test after the fight. What the hell cycle could Pac possibly be on that he could start doping and Sunday and clean out by Saturday, and still have the full effects of the doping. That’s makes no sense.

Face it, Floyd is scared, or is Playing scared. This fight WILL happen. I just wonder how this whole charade will effect the fight. Hopefully in an awesome way.

And For Floyds sake, I hope he takes the fight. I mean, walk away from a $40 Mil payday only to walk into a multi-million dollar legal bill? That also makes no sense.

Thanks for reading.

Patrick Mauricio

GR: ohh aren’t you cute? I decided to start off with this one. I appreciate the effort put into this lengthy email Pat, but if you are going to “shut someone down” as you put it make sure to include correct grammar, spelling and know the “facts” which you want to speak about. I am going to break this down paragraph by paragraph. Ya ready? Cause I’m gonna eat your lunch.

It’s called sarcasm. That wasn’t meant to be taken in a literal sense.

Actually NEITHER fighter has “signed on” for the fight; they have merely come to verbal agreements. And yes ESPN and Yahoo Sports both confirmed Floyd Mayweather had agreed to terms almost a week before Manny did. Arum had to fly out to meet with Manny. This can be looked up through research and proven. Many took a picture of what? The contract? How could that be when even today a finalized version of the contract hasn’t been agreed on? Manny has said since all the allegations he wanted to fight him but wasn’t able to do so on any interview or even live on HBO PPV after his fight with Cotto so…? Again neither has signed an official contract because there isn’t one yet (there may be by this weekend, but as I write this now, there isn’t one).

154? Where did you get this information? Bleacherreport.com? This is a made up thing started on some random low grad boxing website to try and make sure they got as much traffic as sites like this one do. Again, many websites have reported that the things agreed upon by both camps were the weight (147) and the gloves (8oz of their choice). There is no fact or truth to this fight being held at 154 or using 10oz gloves. To put that in this email shows that you are writing biased upon un-proven facts and things made up, no credible site or writer has written that story (we know who the credible site(s) are). So it’s ok to go up to 154 to fight Yuri Foreman but not Floyd? Hmm. Lopsided demands from the Mayweather camp? What blood tests? One thing? I have heard Manny wants a smaller ring and Floyd is willing to give it to him, if anything Mayweather and his team are agreeing and meeting all of Manny’s wants. It may be negotiating power but in order for it to carry weight and mean something, it has to be within reason. Floyd isn’t the bigger draw huh? Let me run some figures by you. Floyd-Oscar did 2.44 Million buys while Manny-Oscar did 1.25, Floyd-Hatton did 950,000 buys while Manny-Hatton did 800,000, Floyd-Marquez did 1.05 million while Manny did around 750,000 in TWO fights with Marquez. So biased upon your logic Manny is a bigger draw? Baised upon common opponents Floyd has doubled what Manny has done fighting the same guys, which would not only “suggest” but “prove” Floyd is a bigger draw no?

Yes Bob Arum is acting like a moron, but I thought he pulled himself from the talk’s right? If so why does it feel like we can’t get away from him? This is the most I have ever seen someone who said they weren’t going to talk, talk. Second, why do you think Floyd wants this fight? Not only does he want to show us all who the best fighter is but it is the biggest money fight in boxing. Knowing the later part why would Floyd want to compromise a guaranteed 25-50 million dollar payday by coming in over weight? Especially when he had no problem making 147 which was evident when he came in at 146 for Marquez? So what you are saying or suggesting is that Floyd is going to try and sneak into this fight at say 150, 151 or 152 pounds? So with that logic he would have to forfeit almost his entire purse just to get an edge? This is the same guy who loves money as much as his own children we are talking about. As a matter of fact fighters come in a weight class or two bigger then guys all the time (Gatti-Gamache, Floyd-Oscar etc…) Floyd beat Marquez because he is a better fighter, not because of weight. By this logic why would Manny want to go up to 154 pounds and fight Yuri Foreman if size wins fights? It is being said that Mayweather-Pacquiao is off for March 13th and that Manny will likely fight Foreman. But hey that is the choice of the guy you are sticking up for here. Pacquiao-Foreman is a HUGE joke. All this because Manny is a coward and can’t step up like a man. Ridiculous

I have heard and been told the Dominican Republic is known as the country with the dirtiest PED problem. You just said Floyd hasn’t come out and accused Manny of anything but then you say Floyd shouldn’t be putting out any of this in the media. So which is it? I’m confused. Again NO ONE from Team Mayweather has said this fight is off or they wanted to pull out, only Manny’s side has.

The point of the Malinaggi thing wasn’t that Manny makes or doesn’t make his own fights it was to prove a point that if they are so worried about what Team Mayweather or GBP is saying about the possibility of Manny on something, why would they turn to fight a guy that has on more then one occasion accused Manny of being on something? That makes no sense no matter how you try and twist it brother. Manny was already fighting Cotto, so how could Floyd fight him at the same time? Williams isn’t a draw and has never fought on PPV so he brings nothing to the table as far as a mega-fight goes. One thing you obviously don’t understand is that fighters have a small window in which to make large paydays so they have to seize them as they arise. What would a Judah rematch prove? Quintana, you’re kidding right? Clottey is tough, but again no one outside or hard-core boxing circles knows who he is. The tail-end of Floyds career is full of playing it safe yet Manny has fought 3 of the same guys Floyd has over the past 3 years so let me guess, Floyd is playing it safe while fighting Marquez, Hatton and De La Hoya while Manny is taking risks fighting the same guys? Hilarious bro. Nice “Logic” as you put it.

They only take like a Tablespoon of blood out at a time when they test you; it isn’t like going to a blood drive Pat. The human body contains 4-6 liters of blood and that 1 tablespoon will be replenished in about an hour. A normal woman can loose half of he body’s blood while giving birth without serious or negative impact, but Manny is weakened by 1 tablespoon being taken out? Come on man. Plus Manny has taken blood tests before, the test he took before the Hatton fight has been released only problem is that blood tests required by almost all boxing commissions only tests from the HIV virus and Hepatitis B and C, not Steroids, HGH or blood doping known as EPO. Knowing that of course Manny and his people wouldn’t care to take the normal NSAC blood tests, although Olympic style testing goes further into the body to test for foreign substances and PED’s. Know the difference between normal tests and Olympic tests before trying to clown. Exactly, REAL ATHLETES HAVE PRIDE. So why not take the tests if Manny is a real athlete? Andre Ward won an Olympic Gold Medal did he not? Was he not subjected to Olympic Style testing? How About Mayweather or Roy Jones when they were Olympians? Never heard anything about them being weakened did we? Karl Malone was one of the highest paid players in his time, the Jazz paid to keep him not Karl taking a pay cut to stick around. And Gary Payton, wasn’t he on the ’94 Super Sonics team that was the best in the NBA? Why did he leave? Not for money right? Sure later in his career when he wasn’t worth giant money he went to teams like the Lakers to try and win a championship but that was when he was about done. Money First, Championship second. Am I wrong? They will do whatever their league asks just like Manny is doing now huh? Isn’t that what the hold up is? Manny not wanting to do what’s asked of him? Again I am confused by what your point is.

Yes Manny hasn’t failed a test that we know of. As far as the Mitchell Report goes, I’m pretty sure that was just for Major League Baseball same as Jose Conseco’s books. There wasn’t a player or athlete from any other sport except baseball in Conseco’s book so I’m not sure what that has to do with anything. Manny is trained by Freddie Roach, the same guy that trained James Toney when he was caught with Steroids right? Not saying there is anything there but it looks and sounds funny doesn’t it? Manny has worked hard to put on weight as you say right? That may be true but why was Manny getting knocked out at 106 pounds and now he is walking through big punchers at 130, 135, 140 and 147 pounds? If you knew boxing you would know that there are two things you can’t train. Punching Power and a Chin. Punchers are born, not made and either you have a chin or you don’t. Manny took big shots from Morales at 130, Marquez at 135, Hatton at 140 and De La Hoya and Cotto at 145. Doesn’t add up my friend.

Marion Jones beat the tests you say? So did Sosa, Ortiz, Ramirez and Pettite in Baseball. So why couldn’t Manny? Kinda answered your own question there huh?

I would hardly call what you wrote destroying. The only being destroyed is your rep here on BT.

Again Pat, if Mayweather isn’t saying anything as you put it, how could he not be dropping the issue? Confusion my man. So this drug testing issue is like a telemarketer calling your house? Hmmm, k. the easiest way to avoid this “harassment” as you call it would just be to take the test right? Manny is dragging it out by not doing so; this is self inflicted harassment if anything. Floyd made the welterweight limit against Marquez, he just didn’t make the contracted weight, but GBP knew he wasn’t going to make weight, GBP left Marquez in the dark, not Floyd. That’s where the blame should go and I have said on record I feel bad for Marquez because his own promotional company failed him in the biggest fight of his career. If you fight 40 times and don’t make contracted weight once, that isn’t having a history of not making weight. It’s a slip up at best.

What is unreasonable is asking for 10 million dollars per pound or fraction over 147 pounds. That means if Floyd is 147.1 pounds he coughs up 10 million bucks. So we went from 300,000 per pound to 10 mil per pound. Sounds reasonable right? Totally. There hasn’t been an amount that big in the history of boxing, yet its reasonable right? Funny my friend.

Mosley admitted to using but not willingly. I have said many times I don’t buy that, I know what goes in my body and so do you. I have no idea why GBP didn’t want to go through this testing on Shane’s part. But Shane ended up not wanting to fight Zab anyway so who cares? Shane is a guy that for the most part has been pretty steady, he went from 135-147 and has fought as high as 154. Manny has gone from 106-145. Big difference in 19 and 39 pounds wouldn’t you say? Plus Shane has always shown great speed, power and a good chin where as Manny has seemed to grow a chin and carry his power up 39 pounds which isn’t all that normal if you look at the history of boxing. Floyd was a great puncher at 130 a decent one at 135 and and average one from 140-154 and hasn’t carried his power up even 10 pounds. That’s natural, that’s what happens normally when you move up in weight.

So you agree that the NSAC needs to implement stricter drug testing policies but the bases of this entire email is about how unfair or unreasonable it is for Manny to be asked to take strict drug tests? I am very confused my man, very as to what you point(s) are when you constantly contradict them. We didn’t know in 2003 that Sosa, Ramirez, Ortiz and Pettite all tested positive did we? We found out some 6 years later, that’s the point just because someone appears to be clean doesn’t mean that someone is hiding something or being hush hush about something. That’s why Mayweather’s team wants to do the strict drug testing.

Arum has always had a hard on for Mayweather since Floyd left him. Of course Arum is going to twist things this way and that way and make everyone think Floyd is scared or whatever, problem is that the facts are that Manny not wanting to agree to terms is what is holing up this fight not Mayweather. Go to ESPN’s boxing home page and you will find something that says “Arum willing to get Pacquiao to move forward on Drug testing”. So I guess I’m confused as to how you are confused that Floyd is holding things up. Every article written is about Manny not wanting to test and Bob trying to get him too. HELLO!! Exactly bro, you just said that Manny and his team agreed to testing and then didn’t. When has Floyd himself, Al Hayman, Leonard Ellerbe or anyone from GBP said they were “pulling out” of this fight or killing it? You said earlier Bob Arum was and now Floyd is? Bro you have to get your facts straight. Every paragraph is a contradiction of the previous. Again there are no weight demands, this fight is agreed to be fought at 147, do some real research.

Manny’s problem is not being tested before the fight it is being tested by blood and in an Olympic style. That is soooooooo fishy and I can’t believe you don’t see that, especially when you try and act like you know so much about boxing, it’s laughable. If the last week shouldn’t be a big problem to test because fighters don’t train then why doesn’t Manny want to be tested? If it isn’t a big deal how can it make him weak? I don’t get it. Yes Manny will test after the fight but the tests done by the NSAC aren’t extensive enough to find everything.

Floyd isn’t scared of Manny or anyone else. With skills like that you have no reason to be scared Pat, gimme a break. Pat my god you are killing me with this Floyd is pulling the fight, he doesn’t want to fight, he will walk away from 40 million etc. Bro he has never, ever, ever said he wanted out of this fight. Find me where he said that.

In conclusion Pat (and this is the most I have ever broken down or responded to an email) I appreciate you enthusiasm but as far as actually knowing the sport my friend, you aren’t in the ballpark, you are in the parking lot. Your email is full of a bunch of made up information, contradictions and far off opinions. You didn’t “destroy” me; I destroyed you in 10 minutes, off the top of my head.

As fast food restaurants say “Thank You, Come Again!!!”

I absolutely love your article. All of the other articles on Boxingtalk concerning this issue have been totally biased in the favor of Pacquiao. I understand that everyone has an opinion but I really appreciate how you stated the facts and remained neutral. They are both asking for huge demands because of the magnitude of the fight but the fact is that only one team has not agreed to them while the other team has agreed to all demands. Great Article! Tinaturner

GR: Hi Tina, thanks for the email. What’s love got to do with it? Yes I agree that almost all of the media is being way bias to Pacquiao. Someone needs to step up and say that if this major fight isn’t being made it’s not because of one person. That’s ignorant.

You were right on target with that article. Why can’t the Pacquiao fans understand this or is sitting here and complaining. I have not read Mayweather bad mouth Pacquiao or bad mouth Pacquiao’s Camp. All I have read is that he wants a level playing field. Which is fair, because he is taking the same test. Like you said by Manny Pacquiao taking Mayweather to court is ridiculous. If he wins there, people are still going to question him! What better way to prove that he is clean, by taking the test and laughing at their faces once its proven that he is clean. I mean what is so hard about taking a random blood test? Great Article…. Jorge Zarate

GR: I agree, I haven’t heard Floyd himself say much. It was more him allowing someone to speak for him out in the media that some are upset about. A fair playing field is what he wants, funny how most seem to be making a stink about it, mainly those who want to see Mayweather fall. The court thing is a straight bitch move no doubt. I don’t know what’s wrong with taking the test to prove all things wrong. I spoke briefly with David Tyler who happens to be a boxing writer and 30 year vet of testing blood cells with a graduate’s degree in biochemistry; he recently did an interview with Freddie roach click here: http://www.doghouseboxing.com/DHB/Tyler123009.htm in which Freddie Roach becomes pretty angry that Tyler is questioning what he knows about blood tests. I have also tried numerous times to contact Tim Smith of the NY Daily News about a report I heard about that Manny had a dirty test and he was asked to keep quiet about it. Not sure if it’s true or not but I was trying to find out more. Also an article here by Dr. Margaret Goodman with Dr. Flip Homansky in which they talk about needing strict drug testing and the fact that the testing now is not working etc. I respect both of their opinions more then I do a bunch of random boxing writers and what they think. That can be found here: http://www.braggingrightscorner.com/drgpeds010410.html . I believe that the easiest and most mature thing to do would be to just man up and take the test if you have nothing to hide. Quit with the crap and just man up. Thanks

This fight will go on and it’s just so bad that they hyped up everything. I just think it went overboard when Manny didn’t agree to the terms set forth by the Mayweather and they used it to tarnish Manny’s credibility. He agreed to some blood testing and random urine testing but not what Mayweather camp is demanding. He went far and beyond what he should do, something even Schaefer wouldn’t do with Mosley. Manny was cornered and angered by this publicity. People reacted to things in different ways and it just so happened that Manny and a majority of the Filipino people reacted that way. Correct me if I’m wrong but did everything that Mayweather agreed on is what Mayweather wanted proposed to his advantage but Manny rejected it? Glove size, ring size and even weight, I mean do you think Manny proposed that he wants 10 oz gloves, fight at 150ish and have a bigger ring? They were all Mayweathers proposal and of course Manny will say No. Now the 10 million dollar fine is quite hefty but why do you think they did it? I’m sure they just don’t want the same thing to happen as what he did to Marquez, they even refused to disclose his actual weight at the night of the fight. Mayweather agreed to it because he made 146, a pound below the limit so if he did it before, then he can do it again. I heard Mayweather even offered a fight to happen on May 1st which is the Philippines election day, well of course Manny will definitely say no to that one. If you look at the two, Mayweather has all the advantage, size, height, reach defense, speed and name it–he’s got them all compared to the “Little Man”. What is he talking about level playing field? They did agreed to what Manny rejected but then they wanted the blood testing to be done under their terms? That USADA (where Tygart was reported as a close friend of Oscar) can show up anytime and poke Manny with a needle? I don’t think he is hiding something, just the way things were delivered to him and he doesn’t like the idea. They used the refusal to make the guy look bad, really bad and even branded as a cheater because they think he is hiding something. I know that Mayweather will be subjected to the same but of course he has to, it is his camps idea and it’s just stupid to say “oh no, I wont do that”. After all, Mayweather Sr says Manny will not beat little Floyd with or without steroids so why push for more than what Manny had agreed upon? The thing is, the fight has to happen and they just need to iron out a very bad mess. I am a Pacquaio supporter and it just hurts me hearing all these accusations from the Mayweather, they didnt belittle the Man, they belittled the Philippines as a whole especially hearing from little Floyd that the “The Philippines got the best enhancement drugs”. Manny worked so hard to make his country very proud but suddenly, his legacy and honor has been somewhat destroyed by accusations that doesn’t have a solid proof. Manny will subject to a blood test and I’m sure of that, just not the way the Mayweathers camp dictates. It’s a very bad hype and as his fellow countryman–it definitely hurts us too.

Vince

GR: thanks for the email Vince. I agree that the things being leaked out are a bit overboard problem is that Floyd agreed to everything Manny and his side wanted and Manny still to this day cant do the same and everyone wants to blame Floyd for this fight not happening. It makes no sense. The 10oz gloves, bigger ring and 150+ pound weight is all made up crap. That’s what im saying, the Manny fans in the media are trying to twist this thing to make it look like Manny is again being picked on and taken advantage of when it is complete crap. Many has sucked guys down in weight and beat on them (De la Hoya, Cotto) and yet nothing is said about that BIG advantage. 10 mil per pound or fraction is ridiculous!!! Why do I think they did it when Floyd came in at 146 for Marquez (this fight is supposed to be at 147) which proves Floyd can make 147? I don’t know you figure that one out lol. Wait bro, Floyd has all the advantages? Just like Oscar, Hatton and Cotto did? And what happened there? Size doesn’t win fights, skills does!!! Geez, I feel like a broken record. That’s the problem man, everyone is treating Manny like he is a little nothing and Floyd is this and that. Is Manny this or is Manny that? Make up your minds. Again the suggestion that the Philippines is has the best PED’s, who knows? Floyd said that im sure out of frustration but I heard the Dominican Republic had the best. Thanks

Yo how much did Floyd pay you for that article? Jus cuz you don’t like bob u pull this? That’s crazy! Pac is clean he has never tested positive not ever. He should take the test cuz floyd says so? That’s dumb. Oh wait cuz Shane said somethins suspicious, oh yeh now I see he should definitely take em now! That’s some weak shit man. U know what I think you plagerized this article so I guess that makes it true right? And to compare blood test to the weight is even more ridiculous. That’s there cuz May didn’t even try to make weight v Marquez he just said fuk it and came in over. So there is precedent for that, unlike the blood. Manny has never failed shit but now cuz floyd says jump he should? Difference to me is Manny has fought everyone has never backed down, and we all know Floyd has. This article was the biggest piece of propoganda I’ve seen in a minute, felt like I was readin somethin from floyd himself. What a disgrace to your previous work! Jason Martinez

GR: Jason, I don’t discuss my business figures over the net lol. I have plenty of reasons which I have said on numerous times and facts and logic to back them up as to why I don’t like Bob Arum. To tell you the truth I am not a big fan of any promoter. I believe we should have a nationally regulated boxing commission as I have said and cut promoters out because overall they are bad for the sport. Having an advisor is a good thing but most of these promoters suck the life out of their fighters and ditch them when they are done or broken, its complete crap. I plagiarized this article? How by using things from the site I write for or maybe it’s because I used a quote from someone else from the AP? No wait it has to be that I don’t give the guys I quote or use things from credit right? That’s a ridiculous comment. I am glad you took the time out of your day to read and reply to my “disgraceful article”. Lol We all know Floyd don’t want this fight, he has a list of ways to get out of it!!! Just like Kelly Palvik claim he wanted Paul Williams,it’s easy to talk the talk but are you willing to walk the walk? Floyd just wanna talk and Pac is ready for action, and if u have accomplished what Pac has,he shouldn’t bow down to Mayweather in no way. PBF or MMW is not all that,he’s skill full and smart,he know who to fight and when i give him that Jessie Howard

GR: Jessie as I have said, how is Floyd trying to get out of this fight when he agreed to fight first, agreed to all Manny’s crazy terms? I don’t get it brother. Manny is looking to have Floyd bow down to him, have his cake and eat it too. Look at the facts.

Greg,

Thank you, thank you, thank you…. I am really glad that someone contributing to this Floyd & Pacquiao story on the Boxingtalk is this smart… No offense… Between Pac-Man’s pom pom waving #1 fan- G.Leon and Ishe Smith who is more known for his work on boxingtalk then for his fighting, I was beginning to think everyone who wrote on this subject needed to be subjected to the same “random” drug testing that Floyd wants for Manny… I mean you got to be biased, stupid or on drugs to think this is some ploy by Mayweather because he doesn’t really want 40 Mil for the fight. Floyd does go by Money Mayweather in case anyone forgot. It’s called Negotiation 101… Each fighter has to give and take to make the fight work. Manny wanted a 10 Mil weight penalty after Floyd came in heavy against Marquez… Giving Floyds reputation, I was quite surprised as I’m sure Manny’s camp was that Floyd readily agreed to this stipulation. Floyd wanted “random” testing… So what’s the big deal. G. Leon will have us believe that this is merely Floyd thinking that he is bigger than boxing by asking for testing that is not currently required, and that somehow his demands are “tainting what should have been the most positive promotion boxing has seen since De La Hoya-Trinidad”. Give me a freaking break…. He is not asking Manny to do anything he is not prepared to do his self. The only reason that this has blown out of proportion is because of Manny’s camp acting in my opinion, a bit sketchy… If you do not have anything to hide, sign the contract, take the “random” test when necessary, train hard, then show up to get that ass beat. Manny’s camp arguing so adamantly about the “random” testing and the time table in which it will be administered is making him look guilty… If it walks like a duck, and starts quacking like a duck, then damn it, we might just have a duck in our midst… You laid out exactly what I have been screaming to everyone that I talk to about this subject. Bob Arum is running around screaming “screw Mayweather, we don’t need him. I will make another fight and keep the March 13th date” as if the boxing fans are stupid enough to believe that crap. What is more infuriating is some of the lame ass excuses that he has tried to feed us. First it was he doesn’t like needles- but wait he has how many tattoos… then it was having blood withdrawn within 30 days of the fight drains him- but wait, as you pointed out 24/7 showed him having exactly what Floyd wants, a “random” blood test before fighting Hatton & we all know how that ended… He didn’t look to drained… No one pointed out the fact that Floyd will be subjected to the same “random” testing… Floyd is the only one who has agreed to all aspects of the contract- including the unprecedented 10 Mil weight penalty and laid off he stance of using USADA and agreed to use the NSAC as Arum demanded…. Yet Arum is still whining like a little girl, all the while trying to make the boxing fans believe Floyd doesn’t want to fight. Pretending that Manny has any interest in making a fight with Paulie Maglignaggi is a freaking JOKE… Is Paulie included in the so called law suit Pacquiao is filing against Mayweather…. I seriously doubt it. If anyone has been outspoken in regards to Pac-man it is Paulie Maglignaggi… I mean give me a break… Make the fight and stop with the smoke and mirrors because the whining by Manny and Arum is getting quite old. When the prospect of this fight started, I would have bet 40 Mil (if I had it) that Mayweather would be the one crying and carrying on like a baby… It wasn’t until someone pointed out to Arum that Manny provided blood on the episode of 24/7 did he changed his tune and say that he would talk to Manny about the testing… It will be interesting to see what excuse they come up with next. Alright, I have ranted enough, appreciate the time and thank you for saying what I have been saying to friends and coworkers since this thing started and I’m sure millions of boxing fans out there, not just Mayweather fans, agree with you. Jermaine “Not the Boxer” Taylor U.S. Army Ft. Meade, Maryland

GR: First of Jermaine, thank you for all you do to keep our country safe, I am very appreciative of my troops. Pom Pom-waving #1 fan huh? Lol. Greg has had a fall out with Floyd because of an article he had written and he is not afraid to take it out on Floyd on BT, it is his site and he has the right to be pissed as I have told him many times. You have to be able to take the positive media with the negative media as a pro I believe. As far as the Ishe thing goes, funny my friend but Ishe has an awkward style, not a lot of guys want to fight him because it is a high risk-low reward type fight. Ishe has skill no doubt my man. I agree about the drug testing and not just for this fight, for all fights from now on. Ya Arum is trying to now sell us that Pacquiao-Foreman is a big fight lol (while atleast you and I know its garbage). Read my previous response as to how I feel about the needles and 24/7 testing etc. Malinaggi is a bigger test and name then Foreman is, but of course they are going to pick Foreman a guy Manny will not only beat the shit out of but probably cripple in the process, its crap. But hey that’s a pound 4 pound best move right? Isn’t my P4P number 1 fighter in the world. Still Manny’s camp can’t agree on testing. Driving us all crazy my man. Thanks for the email and again all you do. Be safe
